4K (UHD) Wish List Thread

Is there such a thread. If not, I made one.

I'd like:

1900 (?)
The Beast (George Dzundza, Jason Patric, Steven Bauer) (1988)
The Abyss (but only if they got the Special Edition Cut)
Blackhawk Down (needs to be Director's Cut, not the available 4K Theatrical)
Kill Bill Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 (Whole Bloody Affair 4K)

You shouldn’t be waiting long for this one, anyway!

I’m genuinely surprised Disney didn’t reissue Mary Poppins when the sequel hit theaters. They’re usually so keen on those sorts of tie-ins.

Two movies I saw in theaters recently and they badly need 4k remasters. Twister and The Neverending Story has a 4K remaster but it’s only available in Germany.

Twister would sound awesome in Atmos.

Re: 4K (UHD) Wish List Thread

If I could only choose one, it'd probably be Forbidden Planet.

If I were being wildly unrealistic, Josie and the Pussycats. :) How is that not on Blu-ray yet?

Mostly I want to see larger-format films -- 65mm, VistaVision, and all that jazz -- represented. The Sound of Music! West Side Story! My Fair Lady! Ice Station Zebra! Tron! Ben Hur! How the West Was Won! The Searchers! To Catch a Thief! North by Northwest! The Trouble with Harry! The Ten Commandments! High Society!

More Technicolor would be nice too. And it'd be criminal if the format were to come and go without a single Mario Bava release in UHD.

Re: 4K (UHD) Wish List Thread

Agreed on all the large format films.

Since some countries are getting 4K releases of Lynch and Cronenberg films, I'd add Lost Highway and Spider to the wish list.
I think Natural Born Killers would be an interesting one, too. Especially since the director's cut Blu-ray is kind of terrible. A redone 4K set with both cuts would be great.

And a Complete Kurosawa box set, naturally :)

Terminator 2 needs redone for a full remaster of the director’s cut.

John Woo's Hard Boiled. If they actually sat down and did a complete remaster of it, I think it could potentially look amazing.

I have the old Dragon Dynasty SE DVD and this is screaming for an upgrade. Not even sure if there's a decent BD release of it.

Well, Lionsgate/Studio Canal did release a 4K version a couple of years ago and I did buy it for cheap ($8) last Black Friday.

But, the majority of the video philes and reviewers say it's complete shit.

I know because I have the disc. On the bluray the theatrical version is remastered and inserted the special edition scenes from the last blu-ray release. Its bad.

Midnight Madness. It’s my favorite movie. Never got a widescreen dvd let alone blu-ray release.
Now that’s out of the way, here’s realistic choices:

Indiana Jones
Abyss
True Lies
Aliens
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Gremlins 2
All John Carpenter
unaltered Star Wars

The Thing and the Indiana Jones movies would be good. Can’t think of a lot more off the top of my head.

There is a fan made HD transfer Blu, Hong Kong Rescue.

A friend said that the Indiana Jones 4K discs will be released summer of 2021.

I watched the HKR release of Hard Boiled just recently. It's very watchable and is probably the best home video release of the film currently available, but it's clearly sourced from a problematic older master and there's a limit to what anyone can do to clean it up. I'm glad to have it, but don't expect miracles.

Also, a note of warning for anyone ordering for the first time: Hong Kong Rescue is a one-man operation and it could very well take a few months for a disc to ship after you place the order. You have to make peace with that before you PayPal the money.

Next year would be a great opportunity for a 10th anniversary edition of The Whole Bloody Affair.

Or at the very least, Kill Bill vol 1 & 2.

It boggles my mind we haven't seen Fight Club on UHD. Now that Disney owns Fox, I wonder if we'll ever get it.

I would guess A Clockwork Orange is coming next yea for the 50th anniversary.
Minority Report seems like a good possibility too since Paramount seems to be updating all of Cruise's films.

I’d love to see some of what’s in Japan find its way here if the price were right. I’d re-buy Ultra Q in a heartbeat on UHD BD, but not at the $665 it’s going for on amazon.co.jp right now. :) (And it’s not even subtitled!)

Mmm, I know there's a 4K special edition of Shin Godzilla in Japan. I've had my eye on importing it for a while now.

Last March, this list leaked from a Russian insider:

1. Backdraft
2. Field of Dreams (30th Anniversary)
3. Casino
4. American Gangster
5. The Hulk
6. Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life
7. The Scorpion King
8. Waterworld
9. The Thing (1982)
10. Hellboy II
11. Fast & Furious (4)
12. Fast Five
13. Shaun of the Dead (15th Anniversary)
14. 47 Ronin
15. World’s End
16. Miami Vice
17. Wanted
18. Hot Fuzz
I was skeptical when I first saw that list -- some very off-the-wall choices there -- but as it turns out, nearly everything on that list has since been released! The Thing is one of just a handful to remain M.I.A., and while there's been no official word, it seems like it just has to be a matter of time.
