Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

I remember going to Showbiz Pizza once as a kid and that animatronic band scared me to death. There's a reason we've had both Five Nights at Freddy's and Willy's Wonderland made as horror movies. Im watching that documentary on youtube right now and the dudes they are interviewing that say they are so called fans are creepy as hell.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

Wasn't sure if posting this here is okay but local horror movie director Jill Gevargizian (Jill Six) is almost done with her new movie and posted this photo. It's a Vinegar Syndrome air freshener hanging in her car. She's also a hair stylist, her last movie was called The Stylist and is on Shudder. She even used her salon in the movie.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

A new email from Diabolik DVD notes that they’ll be distributing Deaf Crocodile’s new boxed-set reissue of three of their Alexandr Ptushko fantasy films (ILYA MUROMETS, SAMPO, TSAR SALTAN), plus a new fourth release of RUSLAN AND LUDMILA. Each disc come with a new slip. Turns out this has been a Kickstarter project that has brought in nearly double the initial ask. I really like many of Deaf Crocodile’s releases so far — although I’ll wait for the fourth film here via Vinegar Syndrome — but this tendency for Kickstarters to go way above what the campaigners need gets to be a bit much sometimes. Presumably they’ll use the extra dough for future releases or whatever, but I kinda hope their business model doesn’t become dependent on this kind of largesse.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

I just received an email about this weekend starting at 12am Eastern Time on 3/15 being able to preorder the new releases for the Halfway to Black Friday sale coming up in May. These are the preorder options.

To prepare for the Pre-Order of your preference, here are the anticipated ordering options:
  • Option 1: Pre-Order Everything at the heaviest discount (includes the VSU, Cinématographe, and four VS titles (two announced and two Secret releases)
  • Option 2: Individual listings for the new VSU, Cinématographe and the two individual VS titles (one of which being CHINA O'BRIEN 1&2)
  • Option 3: A package for just the two Secret Surprise VS releases
The next VSU movie is supposed to be a "Star Studded" Action film from the Orion catalog so I'm curious what that will be.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

Even after Googling, I don't have any clue on what the "action star studded" film could be. I have guesses, but none of them are with a start studded cast. I was thinking of stuff like Robocop 2, Flesh + Blood, Navy Seals (lol), etc.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

Navy Seals had Charlie Sheen, Michael Biehn, Dennis Haysbert, Bill Paxton, and Rick Rossovich(Slider from Top Gun). That might be considered a "Star Studded" Action vehicle and I'd buy a Deluxe VS edition.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

NAVY SEALS does seem like a likely candidate, although it’s been perpetually available since it played theatrically, so even packed SE might take a while to move. When I first got that email about Orion, a couple of Chuck Norris movies came to mind but neither are overly “star-studded” (well, one kinda is) but both are already available on Blu, with supplements: CODE OF SILENCE and LONE WOLF McQUADE. Then again, knowing VS’s gift for hyperbole, the “stars” in their references to “star studded” aren’t always guaranteed to be present or former A-listers, so maybe we’ll get a super-deluxe slipped ‘n boxed edition of EVE OF DESTRUCTION, THE TAKING OF BEVERLY HILLS, THE SUBSTITUTE, UNDER FIRE, the F/X movies, SPEED ZONE (well, it is “star studded” even though it’s terrible ), LIONHEART (the Eric Stoltz flop), REMO WILLIAMS, or stuff like that. Although I’m pretty sure a bunch of those are already on Blu-ray from Kino and Shout and the like.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

And Michael Bein was on a recent episode of Michael Rosenbaum's podcast and trashed Navy Seals for a bit, so I doubt he'd even participate unless VS pays well enough for cast participation.

Let's not get it twisted, though, I'd buy it Day 1, too!

I doubt Kevin Smith will notice if Vinegar Syndrome releases Navy Seals.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

It's gonna be Navy Seals, Dangerous Game, and that China O'Brien set. I already have the China set coming from Eureka. I see that Dangerous Game is only a BD restored from a 4K source. I'll take it for it being an Abel Ferrara film.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

I'm good with my $5 bargain bin Blu of Navy Seals.

I have $20 in points I was going to use towards China O'Brien, but I figured I might as well take advantage of the double points and order it without that, then just them during the sale in May.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

I think I re-watched Navy Seals for the 1st time in many years during the pandemic while it was on Prime video.

For the star power it had, it was a pretty forgettable movie IMO. Hardly worth a hefty premium price on physical media.

I think Clerks namedropping it did more for Navy Seals still being mentioned nowadays than anything else.

Re: The Official Vinegar Syndrome Thread

I couldn't do the flash preorder but all the HTBF movies (minus the mystery titles) are still available for preorder on the website. I hope to place my order for Navy Seals and China O' Brian next month. With Navy Seals being a VSU title I don't think its had the references in pop culture today that made movies like Road House or Showgirls sell out of the boxed set editions right away.

Those two almost seem unrivalled — and wholly justified for exalted status — compared to virtually all of the other VSU titles so far. I mean, many of them undoubtedly play on video store era nostalgia vibes more than anything but never truly ascended into any kind of cult pantheon the way ROAD HOUSE and SHOWGIRLS did. As far as I can tell, only those two plus CLOAK & DAGGER actually sold out their limited editions, while the rest haven’t come close, yet, so I really don’t see NAVY SEALS breaking that streak. Not only was it ubiquitous in the video store days, it’s been that way ever since. It’s practically a mainstay in thrift shops now. This all makes me wonder if there are truly any other films from that era that equal their two (or three) bestsellers in the line.
