Any media buying regrets?
Like an OOP set you just had to have set that later turned out to be not definitive, a sucky/disappointing set or you just regretted a purchase (blind buy or otherwise).
I think for me and I have no idea why, but I got a Blu-ray SteelBook (that was DVD sized, I believe) that was exclusive to San Diego Comic-Con of Zach Snyder’s turd, Sucker Punch. I still have sealed. Bought the regular extended edition just so I wouldn’t open, but I have no idea why. This was like what, 2011? I still haven’t watched EE cut and even think I have that digitally and remembered I didn’t really like or follow the theatrical at all and got horrible reviews and box office. I did pay the premium at time for some reason, maybe I liked design or having on exclusivity. I dunno, but little regretful now.

Planet of the Apes remake DVD blind buy. Not sure why I bought it.
Movie was meh, but it was the first and only time I experienced DVD rot. Only watched the DVD once and it’s messed up after the halfway point layer change when I tried to watch it again a second time (a couple years later). The first viewing was fine and I take care of my discs.

I got that big marvel 21 film 4k set and the Skywalker sage sets that i still havent opened and now that i've gotten to disliking the marvel movies I somewhat regret that one. I do regret getting the James Bond ultimate dvd sets and the Blade Runner briefcase set because they all went bad on me but its nothing major, things go bad oh well i just replace them. I have over 900 steelbooks and I kinda wish I just got the regular editions so they'd be uniform. i think i have a little over 15,000 different titles and the thing I regret most is double dipping when i never watch special features anymore but I like having the movies so even then its just a minor thing.

Oh, yeah, tons.
Really, anything that ended up getting a better edition down the line. That means anything I bought on DVD early in the format that either had a SE come out later, or a blu-ray. The ones I bought for five or six bucks don't sting as bad, but they add up over time.
Also, buying stuff at regular price that later ended up in the $5 bins.I was also buying a lot of foreign and indie-type of films in the late 90s/early 00s that I can't say I ever want to revisit again. I also had a habit of picking up most Miramax titles when reel.com and other online merchants were offering coupons and steep discounts, most of which were really shitty non-anamorphic transfers. I don't know if I'll ever feel the need to watch Being John Malkovich, Run Lola Run, or Wings of the Dove again.
I bought that big-assed Prisoner DVD boxed set from A&E for about sixty bucks, which seemed like a bargain at the time, though I later bought it on blu-ray in a smaller package for $25. And I got that complete X-Files DVD set for about $100, which again, seemed like a good deal, but I was able to snap up the blu-rays for even less. And that complete David Tennant Doctor Who DVD set for about $70, then I got the same content on blu-ray for fifteen goddamned dollars earlier this year.
In hindsight, it feels like I've wasted several thousand dollars on DVDs and blu-rays.
Fortunately, I have been able to sell off a few of these titles that ended up going out of print and made more than I paid for them.

Every Blu-Ray or DVD that I bought, never watched, and then sold for less than 25% of what I originally paid in order to fund the purchase of a newer edition. This was probably 80% of my purchases. I've been a lot more diligent with UHD purchases but mainly because they're not released with the same frequency as DVD and Blu Ray were.

Don't want to be on that treadmill to begin with.

In hindsight probably 90%+ of my purchases. Especially the LD years.

I regret buying any movie or tv show I haven't seen just because a lot of people said it was good on the internet.

Re: Any media buying regrets?
Considering how much I've bought and sold, I think I have done okay over the years. The 1985-1995 VHS years probably stung the most as titles were $10-$30 each and I had a collection of 350 or so titles. Most of these I sold for $1 or just gave them away.
95% of my DVD and Blu-ray/HD-DVD collection were purchased used for $.50 to $5 each. I guess I never had that "Day One All the Way!!" impulse which saved me a lot of regrets.
Appreciating DVD and Blu-ray without yearning for 4K has also helped maintain my sanity.

Most common is when I was buying full TV series. They were great deals but some shows don't hold up, it turns out I don't really like the show that much, or I realize I'll never get around to watching the show. Especially on DVD, when BD and now streaming potentially supplanted it.
The few day-one purchases I bought were movies I really wanted to see and did watch soon after getting them, so between that and the fact that there weren't many, I'm OK with that.
Amazingly, a little regretful about getting rid of some titles. I sold some, sometimes making decent money, others breaking even - but now they're titles that are OOP or very hard to find and I want to watch them again.

Re: Any media buying regrets?
I stopped buying television on BD and DVD for the most part. If I want to catch up on a season or if I miss episodes, streaming it (legally) is so easy to do now. Or even buying it digitally.
I used to buy a lot of network TV shows once they hit physical media when the season wrapped even though I had watched the season already. I honestly scratch my head now why I did that. If you watch a 20 to 22 episode season over 8 months, how likely are you to re-watch it? Very unlikely. Watching long seasons, you just don't feel like re-visiting them again on DVD or BD anytime soon or at all.
You only have so many hours in the day to watch movies and TV and the last thing I think most people want to do is watch some old TV show that just saw 6 months ago when 10 new shows come out.

Re: Any media buying regrets?
Yeah, some of these were shows I loved, and some were "Hey, I want to watch that show" and it was a good price. There was a long time where I didn't have cable or satellite, and only had Netflix for streaming, so that's how I watched "TV". That said, I do buy shows digitally (again, usually on sales). I'm currently working through about 6 series between Vudu and Hulu, some of which I have already seen and a couple of which are new and those "I should watch those sometime".
But no, I'm never going to watch the complete Mary Tyler Moore Show on DVD (and if I was, I would have bought it on Vudu when it was 25 bucks a while back).

I'm past that. Now I'm basically sticking to their martial arts and sci-fi releases.
I bought Tokyo Olympiad last month, but I've been after that for years - I hate most sports but enjoy sports movies.

Yeah, I have laserdiscs, Blu-rays and DVDs that I will probably never watch again.
For new releases, I will rent them from Redbox and if I really like it a lot, purchase the 4k disc. That becoming a rarity though.
Unless reviews tell me that the 4k is a substantial improvement from my Blu-rays (the STAR WARS movies, for example), I will resist the upgrade.

My local Vintage Stock is full of my media buying regrets. I have learned to be more selective in this last year. Earlier today I even cleaned out my preorders on amazon.

Re: Any media buying regrets?
While I loved them at the time, I practically paid full going price for the original X-Files DVDs as they came out. Looking back that was a giant waste of money since the Blu-rays ended up being ultra-cheap by comparison. I believe I spent nearly $1000 on those DVDs and I probably couldn't get more than $30 now for the entire set.
