The Shaw Bros. set went down to $129.99 on Amazon. That's good enough for me, so I pulled the trigger.

I was just about to buy this at Diabolik at the same price, but this eliminates any shipping cost. Thanks.

I'm looking forward to the standard edition of Battle Royale (didn't need the sequel or all that tat) for sure. Interested in Phantom of the Mall, Mill of the Stone Women, and Sailor Suit & Machine Gun, although those might be wait-for-a-sale purchases (especially Mill; a bit surprised by its price point). As much as I like The Hills Have Eyes, I'm not sure how much that cries out for a UHD upgrade.

I'm sure I'll end up buying Hills, but I'm also a bit surprised at its upgrade. The source material doesn't seem like it's screaming that it needs to be in 4k. Battle Royale will be a nice upgrade.

Nice to see another lesser-known (in the west) but highly influential Japanese film being given the boutique treatment. The only subbed version of SAILOR SUIT in the DVD era was part of the Kadokawa series released by IVL in Hong Kong. That line had a strong selection of essential pictures from the studio, including several key ones with idol star Hiroko Yakushimaru from this film (she was a top earner for the entire decade). But those are long OOP. I don’t think Kadokawa films have been overly well represented in the west, so hopefully the Arrow release might inspire other labels to see the value of their catalog in defining the era of the 70’s and 80’s in Japanese cinema. There’s a lot of good stuff there.

Mill of the Stone Women looks interesting, any thoughts?

I got that big Arrow set from UK from awhile ago. Any difference in this except the 4K?

I have the DVD but I remember being a little disappointed in it when I watched it years ago.
The DVD version of this horror classic restores all the scenes cut from its original US release including the notorious "topless" shots of sexy French star Dany Carrel
It was a blind buy.

This edition has a whole lot less. Doesn’t have the sequel or soundtrack CD, so it’s two discs instead of five.

Oh, I saw the sequel. It’s dreadful. No desire, whatsoever, to see that pos again. Not even short candle to first and I’m sure I’ll never listen to cd. I think this is good enough for the incredible 1st. 2 cuts and special features, (so 3 discs actually) are what I love and that sf disc is packed.

Ah. Well, the limited edition UHD set that came out in April has 5 discs, so I assumed it was the same with the BD set.

I’ll probably pick up the Hills Have Eyes. I need to find confirmation first that the Turbine release doesn’t have Dolby Vision though. Otherwise I’ll import that one.

Well for those who got Dune - well that transfer is shady as hell. Some really good parts mixed with some really bad stuff. Very inconsistent at best. Alas.

You have the disc or you're looking at screencaps?

The movie itself. Lotta digital noise going in and out. I got it from Diabolik yesterday.

And then so much goodness.

The beginning credits look fantastic, I was hoping for that kind of consistency for the entire movie.

Hmm, interesting. I ordered both the Limited Edition and the SteelBook together. Apparently the SteelBook has been delayed, which means my order hasn't shipped.

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I know a couple of people that already reviewed the 4K of Dune and they said it looked great. Granted, Arrow just sends check-discs to reviewers, so who knows if the QC got screwed up at the last minute. I also have the Steelbook ordered via DiabolikDVD, but have it combined with Tale of Two Sisters, which will take longer to get to me.

I'm asking because I'm not as adept at identifying these kinds of issues, but is the above digital noise, or an out-of-focus shot compounded by heavy grain?

Is there a comparison available to previous releases when it comes to specific shots like the one above?
