Well, I will say at least Amazon keeps upping my ship date for Tremors. First it was Feb. 18. Then, Jan. 24. Now, Jan. 22. Looking hopeful...

Zavvi has the 4k Tremors set for 31.49 plus shipping and tax. Still comes out to under 40. Get it while you can. I ordered a copy last night.

The price has been raised to $40.99. I had thought I could just wait it out with this and it would come back at a reasonable price on Amazon but, the past year a lot of things especially limited editions have been hard to get. I ended up getting this and Crash directly Arrow UK for £30 each.

i don't know what is going on with Southland Tales. Amazon just emailed me saying i had to approve a delay in this. i did, of course, but it's not even up for sale on Amazon now.

Is Arrow’s version of Tremors already impossible to find? I get if the limited version is no longer available, but is there not even a standard 4K release?

The expectation is that a standard release will follow. That's the European model -- pricey limited edition with a less expensive standard edition some months later.

They're out of stock (currently unavailable). I only saw third market sellers and the price had gone back up to $35.99.

You know that "no longer friends with x, now best friends with y" meme? That's me with Criterion and Arrow.

Toddarino 01-29-21 09:39 AM

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Yep I all but stopped paying attention to Criterion a few years ago for a bunch of reasons. I just went to 4K a few months ago and I don’t understand their apprehension to jumping on that train.
I still pick up random titles of stuff I’m familiar with, but for some reason I’d rather plunk down $30 on a blind buy VS, arrow or Severin release.

I got sucked into the Criterion Completionist thing for a while. I still have tons of titles I've never watched that I bought because of the prestige factor. I'm trying to be better at getting through my backlog so I can sell those off once I give them a watch. My thing is sci-fi, fantasy and some horror, I should just embrace that and have fun with my movie watching.

Pre-ordered Battle Royale and Donnie Darko 4K sets via DiabolikDVD.

Brian T 01-29-21 04:12 PM

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Interested in the BATTLE ROYALE Blu-ray set, but kinda wish they'd do a separate new release for just the first film (with or without the director's cut, which is negligible and really screws with the pacing of the film). BRII isn't very good, but I guess they can appeal to completists by including it in yet another set. Few new extras, but it looks like they ported over everything from the earlier editions.

Disappointed that the Jack Hill/Quentin Tarantino commentary wasn't re-used on the SWITCHBLADE SISTERS disc. That's a great track.

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

The drive-in filmmaker boxed sets keep on comin'. Al Adamson, Bill Grefe, Andy Milligan on the way (well, I can probably live without that one), and now Bill Rebane from Arrow.

(Available on Blu-ray in the UK on May 24 and in the US and Canada on May 25)

Region B, apparently, but I can't imagine Europe having a bigger audience than the U.S. for something like this. Really wish it had GIANT SPIDER INVASION and/or BLOOD HARVEST – which I'm sure will be pointed out repeatedly – but those are on other labels and this looks pretty solid nonetheless. Some of the films are pretty dire, but they do have their place in the unique history of American regional filmmaking:

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...5a3721ed79.jpg

FROM THE WILDS OF WISCONSIN HE CAME…

Alien Invasions! Haunted Pianos! Sentient Monster Trucks! Arrow Video is proud to present the first ever collection of works by Bill Rebane, the epitome of an independent regional filmmaker who built his own studio in the wilds of Wisconsin. He acted for Hitchcock, he searched for the arms of the Venus De Milo, he turned a VW Beetle into a giant spider and he’s still at work today!

Bringing together six films, all new to Blu-ray and in brand new restorations, Weird Wisconsin: The Bill Rebane Collection packs in a mutant astronaut bothering blissful sunbathers (Monster A Go-Go), a contagion apocalypse as seen from the vantage point of a remote mountain cabin (Invasion from Inner Earth), deadly alien spores from the rocks of Mars (The Alpha Incident), rural gothic and outright horror (The Demons of Ludlow), an eccentric ‘body count’ movie (The Game) and a comedy smash-‘em up that pits three hillbilly stooges against a talking Monster Truck with artificial intelligence (Twister’s Revenge).

Loaded with new interviews and extras, this is an essential collection of features from one of America’s most tenacious outsider auteurs!

MONSTER A GO-GO!

American astronaut Frank Douglas returns to earth as a ten-foot-tall radioactive humanoid monster! Independent filmmaker Bill Rebane’s first attempt at a feature film began life as Terror At Halfday but was abandoned when funds ran dry. It was then bought by legendary exploitation pioneer Herschell Gordon Lewis who shot extra footage, added a voice over and released it to drive-ins as MONSTER A GO-GO! Rebane himself called it “the worst film ever made”, but it’ll still give you the wim-wams!

INVASION FROM INNER EARTH

In the Canadian wilderness a group of pilots listen to reports of planes crashing, cars stalling and a deadly plague gripping the planet. As it becomes clear that the Earth is amidst an invasion, they barricade themselves in a cabin in the woods and wait for impending doom.

THE ALPHA INCIDENT

A space probe returns from Mars carrying a deadly organism that could destroy all life on Earth! While being transported across country by train the micro-organism is accidentally released, resulting in the quarantine of an entire train station. Those trapped inside must wait for the government to find a cure while trying not to sleep, because that’s when the organism strikes!

THE DEMONS OF LUDLOW

The population of a small, quiet town prepares to celebrate the bicentennial anniversary of its founding, but the town of Ludlow has a very dark past and when a piano arrives at auction, the ghosts its past return to seek retribution.

THE GAME (aka THE COLD)

Three bored millionaires gather nine people at an old mansion to play “The Game” … if they can meet and conquer their fears and they’ll receive a million dollars in cash. But all is not as it seems!

TWISTER’S REVENGE

An action-comedy-smash-‘em-up in which three bumbling criminals repeatedly attempt to steal the artificial intelligence control system of Mr. Twister, a talking Monster Truck.

from Smokey and the Bandit 4K, plus Cool World, Revenge of the Shogun Women in 3D, Zavvi buys Arrow Films & more (thedigitalbits.com)

Finally today, in other news from around the industry, it appears that The Hut.com Ltd, the UK company that owns the online retailer Zavvi, has just purchased the UK-based distributor Arrow Films. There’s been no official announcement of this yet, but you can see the documentation of the sale here at the UK government’s Companies House website. I wouldn’t necessarily expect this to change anything about the way Arrow Films and Arrow Video operate, but it’s an interesting development nonetheless.

I do see that as one possibility. Physical media has held up a bit better in the UK compared to the US. Zavvi isn't buying Arrow not to use the label as an exclusive lure for their retail side.
