Arrow's new CRYSTAL PLUMAGE disc appears to correct Vittorio Storaro's bizarre aspect ratio business on their earlier release, and several of the supplements are new:

- Brand new 4K restoration of the film from the camera negative in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio, produced by Arrow Video exclusively for this release
High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentations
- Original mono Italian and English soundtracks (lossless on the Blu-ray Disc)
English subtitles for the Italian soundtrack
- Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing for the English soundtrack
- New audio commentary by Troy Howarth, author of So Deadly, So Perverse: 50 Years of Italian Giallo Films
- The Power of Perception, a new visual essay on the cinema of Dario Argento by Alexandra Heller-Nicholas, author of Devil s Advocates: Suspiria and Rape-Revenge Films: A Critical Study
- New analysis of the film by critic Kat Ellinger
- New interview with writer/director Dario Argento
- New interview with actor Gildo Di Marco (Garullo the pimp)
- Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Candice Tripp
- Limited edition 60-page booklet illustrated by Matthew Griffin, featuring an appreciation of the film by Michael Mackenzie, and new writing by Howard Hughes and Jack Seabrook

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

Well, I was quite surprised and disappointed to have my 1st defective Arrow Blu-Ray recently. The title in question was "Cemetery Without Crosses", and it was totally defective for the last 20 or so minutes of the film, kept freezing and skipping every few seconds. Luckily I was able to finish the film by putting in the DVD copy, and this might also be the 1st time I actually used the DVD copy of an Arrow BD. I returned it to Amazon for a refund and decided not to reorder another copy since the film was not really my cup of tea anyway.

This is the 1st I've ever heard or seen of a defective Arrow BD. Are they more common than I think?

I got my UK House Collection yesterday and even though 3 and 4 are marked as Region B, I was able to play both in my PS3. I didn't even realize there was gonna be a book with it, it's really nice. On a side note, I am happy to call this my 1000th Blu-ray! Glad the milestone got to be on a release I was really looking forward to.

Looks like the framing issues that Arrow had with Hellraiser 3, are apparent in their transfer of House as well :(

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

That's disappointing to hear. It wasn't much of an issue for me with Hellraiser III, but something is going on with Arrow's quality control since this is the 3rd example of this happening in a short time (Creepshow 2 being the 2nd incident).

I can't remember if even more titles that Arrow has released recently fall under this but it seems like all the films they acquired from Lakeshore have this issue.

My House UK set just arrived from Amazon UK a few days ago.

Great looking set and it has an amazing amount of content. I guess licensing issues were the reason why III and IV weren't included in the U.S. release. Those 2 also have a vast amount of content.

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

Just received my copy of the "Donnie Darko" Limited Edition...I can't wait till this evening. I'm all in for "The Bird with the Crystal Plumage." Sold my Blue Underground edition years ago when I liquidated my original collection. I once again own pretty much everything I foolishly sold off. These limited editions are being beautifully executed by the folks at Arrow. I wish Warner Bros. would produce a few more of these for a select number of titles. They previously did a handful of these shelf-friendly box sets that I cherish as well--far better than those over-blown sets with worthless ephemera. I'm not so upset that some studios have moved to licensing. These boutique distributors value these films far more than the studios that own them.

I'm anxiously awaiting my set to arrive from Diabolik. I checked the site this morning and they are now sold out as well.

Re: The Official Arrow Blu-ray Thread

So I got a chance to go through a little of the House UK set.

Parts 1 and 2 are region free. The packaging indicates that on the inside.

However, it also looks like 3 and 4 are region free, despite the packaging saying otherwise. I played part 3 last night on my region free BD player without having to press the Region B playback button on my remote, which I would have to do normally. Haven't checked 4 yet, but I'm guessing it's the same thing.

There is a really cool book in the packaging with lots of great notes about each movie. Sean Cunningham said in the House 3 section that he pre-sold it internationally as "House 3" and it was branded internationally as such even though it was released as "The Horror Show" in the U.S. United Artists thought for marketing purposes it would play better with a different name as opposed to keeping it branded as the 3rd House movie.

Yeah, I should get Wednesday from Amazon. I'm not sure I ever saw the DC. Think I only saw once or twice but loved it. Too bad new docu doesn't have the cast. Why could Jake or anyone else talk now about it? It didn't do well, but nothing to be ashamed about as it's cult status is cemented...

I just got my copy over the weekend but haven't watched it yet. In the Documentary did they say that any of the stars were ashamed of it?

If they couldn't get any of the (now) bigger stars to appear, it could have been scheduling issues or a host many other things.

Oh, no, I haven't seen it. I doubt they are, just doesn't seem a valid reason for any of them talking about it. With a release like this seems like they could go to wherever they are...

I'm not sure what a valid reason would be for you then. I'm literally just guessing. As I mentioned, there could be a host of reasons why the rest of the cast weren't included (outside Duval) in the Documentary. Hell, you could ask the question you put forth about every Special Edition of a DVD or Blu-Ray that has ever been released, that is missing Cast Members either on Audio Commentary or a Retrospective.

Jake isn't shy about the importance of the film to his career. He was interviewed by a radio station and said:

"It’s one of the proudest moments of my career."

“It’s a movie that exists right where I love to be. Anyone who wants to know what’s going on in my mind, go see that movie.”

There was a seller on Amazon UK this morning who was selling the House box set for $25 bucks shipped to the States. I managed to snag one up before they sold out. :rock2:

UPDATE: lol, nevermind. Just got a cancellation notice. Oh well, it was worth a shot.

So this House Collection... what is the cheapest option for the full UK set? Amazon UK looks like it is about $43 shipped to the US. Or is this completely wiped out?

Says it ships in 1-3 weeks, but folks seem to be treating it lie it's completely sold out?

Is it a limited edition? I haven't seen a definitive answer.

I should have picked it up, but I'm wary od picking up foreign releases because of stuff like PAL and 50/60. I'm not sure what my player andtv can handle.

Also prevents me from buying the European blu-ray release of Caprica.

Yeah, it's not sold out at Amazon, it's just currently on back order. Bluray.com has it listed as region free, so you should be good.

I ordered it and a Amazon UK representative assured me it would be in stock within the 1-3 week timeframe. It's sold out on Arrow's website but Amazon might have enough clout to squeeze more sets out of Arrow. I dont have my hopes up but I'll take the chance anyway.

New Re-animator BD box set coming July 25th. U.S. title.

HERBERT WEST HAS A GOOD HEAD ON HIS SHOULDERS… AND ANOTHER ONE ON HIS DESK. When medical student Dean Cain advertises for a roommate, he soon finds one in the form of Dr. Herbert West. Initially a little eccentric, it some becomes clear that West entertains some seriously outlandish theories – specifically, the possibility of re-animating the dead. It’s not long before Dean finds himself under West’s influence, and embroiled in a serious of ghoulish experiments which threaten to go wildly out of control… Based on H.P. Glad we're getting a PSYCHO II release by Arrow. It will certainly best the Scream Factory release by miles. That release had terrible compression artifacts throughout, and was a very bad encode...

I see that Arrow is releasing Pulse. Everyone seems to rave about this film, saying that it's super-scary.

I've watched it three times now, trying to see what everyone else sees in it, but I find it neither scary nor even remotely interesting. And I've really tried to find something good about it, but I can't.

If anyone's a fan of the film, would you please try to explain to me what makes it so good? I'm at a total loss on this one.

That's an awful lot of effort to put into something just because of how other people feel about it. Might be better to just to find negative reviews that support your position instead of revisiting it over and over like that. :(

That's a good point, Brian, but when the reviews are so overwhelmingly positive, it makes me think that I'm just not seeing what everyone else is seeing...and that irks me. I guess that I'll just have to chalk this one up to personal preferences. Thanks for the thought, though.

Sorry to have hijacked the thread momentarily--carry on.

Just watched Cemetery Without Crosses. It was a blind buy for me---awesome looking picture, and fantastic movie. Definitely in my top ten of Spaghetti Westerns (or Baguette Westerns, as the case may be, with the French cast and director.)
