Generally speaking, if a 4k disc has a contemporaneous Blu-ray release from the same master, there's not going to be a whole lot of difference between the two.

I have the Arrow remastered bluray boxed set of Robocop and it was from a 4k remaster. I doubt there be much difference to get the same release in 4k.

Received my 4k copies of The Visitor, Westworld, and Excalibur today. We are watching The Visitor and the transfer is quite good aside from a few shots. I look forward to watching Excalibur later tonight and Westworld in the next few days.

Based on the pictures I can't tell if Robin hood is going to be one of their boxed sets. I hope so.

The higher price also is a give away it'll be a boxed set. I already preordered it off of Amazon but It'll come down in price by the time it ships.

I haven't seen Blue Thunder in ages but just the name is so evocative of the feel of the film. I may have to find a way to rewatch that pretty soon.

He was the biggest movie star in the East for two decades, but Hong Kong action legend Jackie Chan had never successfully cracked the West… until the 1990s kicked off a six-film run of phenomenal smash hits that would finally make him an international household name, instantly synonymous with the most jaw-dropping and death-defying stunts ever put on screen!

1994’s Drunken Master II sees Jackie back as Wong Fei-hung, the role that first made his name, and teaming up with Shaw Brothers legends Lau Kar-leung and Ti Lung to deliver the ultimate, era-defining love letter to classic kung fu. The following year saw Jackie’s first number one box office success in America thanks to Rumble in the Bronx, in which he visits New York City and must defend his friends and family against vicious street gangs and ruthless smugglers, followed by Thunderbolt in which Jackie is forced to compete behind the wheel against a criminal street racer who has kidnapped his sister. In the fourth entry of the much-beloved Police Story series (also known as First Strike), Jackie chases a stolen nuclear warhead on an explosive globe-trotting secret mission; Chan’s “big brother” Sammo Hung takes the director’s chair in Mr. Nice Guy as Jackie plays a TV chef in Australia forced to do bloody battle against the mob; and finally in Who Am I?, our hero is an ass-kicking amnesiac on the trail of a mysterious new power source as well as his own lost identity.

Finally together and restored in 4K for the first time, this collection of unparalleled martial arts madness chronicles Jackie Chan’s crossover to worldwide superstardom (just before Rush Hour made him a bonafide Hollywood icon), in which no bone in his body is left unbroken in his quest to leave you entertained!

This is the first time Marlowe has been on Blu-ray isn't it? That's one of the Bruce Lee screen appearances I don't yet have on disc, so I might have to pick it up.

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Well, there it is. The box set I've been waiting for. When James Flower teased that he was working on a set that was on par with the Bruce Lee set, I thought this has to be what it was. Along with all of the work 88 has been doing, this pretty much ties up all the loose ends in my Jackie Chan collection.

The only thing that jumps out to me on first glance that's missing are the Cantonese dub tracks for some of these films. I could be wrong, but my understanding is that while movies like Rumble in the Bronx may have been shot sync sound with different actors speaking different languages, they were in fact given full Cantonese dubs for their Hong Kong release. While that may not ultimately be my preferred way to watch, it would be nice to have those tracks made available given that's how they were originally released in the home territory.

I've been trying to find some of those Jackie films on DVD lately, I guess I'll ease up on that search and try to save some pennies for this set.

And I guess I'll try to get the Mortal Kombat set too, even though Annihilation is trash.

This caught my eye as well as the owner of the (now-ancient) HK versions of most of these, in part because they were usually significantly altered in their U.S. versions in other ways. Mind you, the majority of these except for DM2 were performed in (mostly) English on set with mixed casts, so it was always a compromise either way. HK versions were often longer, but the lips mostly didn’t match except in scenes where HK characters were speaking to HK characters, but the American versions often dropped or changed footage, replaced soundtracks, etc. I’m sure Arrow has put in the effort to make these as ‘complete’ as possible, but it would be cool to have the Canto audio just for the sake of completion.

Also, now that Arrow (and other boutiques) are freely raiding the Warner catalog, from whence many of these were presumably acquired along with whatever rights from Golden Harvest were needed, I really, really, REALLY hope this is a sign that the rest of the company’s Golden Harvest holdings – which are not insignificant – will finally be let loose. It’s been a little frustrating looking at their Golden Harvest list from time to time and remembering their tiresome promises that something might happen down the road. Not everything in those holdings is a gem, admittedly, but there’s some seriously great stuff in there.

The lack of a Blu-ray version of these sets does make me wonder if Warner is still holding back those rights so they can keep the various sub-par Blu-rays and DVDs they have for these in circulation. :(

I say ‘sets’ plural because there’s also a web-store exclusive on the site, with artwork based on those lazy ‘black t-shirt sessions’ that turned up on practically every Jackie Chan release from the 90’s onward. Sigh. Sleeve art on the discs is more akin to the original HK posters (and maybe some Japanese ones?), but I assume those are reversible (?).

Also, really nice to see WAKE IN FRIGHT back in circulation. That one came up in the ‘Ted Kotcheff RIP’ thread a while back, and I recall some folks weren’t familiar with it, so this might be a good opportunity for them in a future sale. It’s pretty intense.

I think they are reversible.

As for the black t-shirt pics, I thought those were an abomination at the time, but I can't think of any better way to represent the era. Seems totally appropriate. Not enough for me to pay more to get it direct from Arrow, but in general I approve.

Re: The Official Arrow Films 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

For what it’s worth there was an additional new release announced on Arrow’s UK site today, in both 4K and Blu editions (the latter region B). Looks like the content matches Shout’s version. We’ve had some discussion previously about the quality of subs being better on some of the Arrow versions of these HK pictures, but I’m not sure if that’s consistent across the line.
