Nah, we sold that house when we had to move for my job. There's no room for that where I am now until/unless I can buy a place.

^ It's fine. It was nice to have, and sure I miss it, but maybe if I'm ever a homeowner again, I'll be able to put something nice together. I have other priorities for the time being. :)

Re: Are you ever ashamed of or overwhelmed by your media collection?
So that Discsox sleeves storage option was mentioned earlier. Do we have a thread where people give recommendations for products that are good for people who toss cases but store the artwork and discs?
I've always been really opposed to this, but I am considering it for some of my DVDs. I'm starting to run out of space. I should just stop buying, but that won't happen. |
Re: Are you ever ashamed of or overwhelmed by your media collection?
I signed the papers on my first house this morning.
Still overwhelmed by my collection of 2,800+ BDs/DVDs. Not looking forward to packing everything up again. Looking forward, it'll be nice to finally have a single room dedicated to my collection. |
Re: Are you ever ashamed of or overwhelmed by your media collection?
Congrats.
I had to lug like 3 times that. It was a bitch. |

Re: Are you ever ashamed of or overwhelmed by your media collection?
Myself in multiple trips.

I did that the first time I moved but it was only a 20-mile drive each way. This time around it'll be about a 43-mile drive each way. |
Re: Are you ever ashamed of or overwhelmed by your media collection?
I put virtually all my dvds etc. in paper sleeves and throw out or recycle all the rest. It saves a ton of space and I don't miss the packaging. (I save booklets of they are substantial, and have a small selection of releases with special packaging, but that's it.)
As for moving, congrats, asianxcore! Hire a mover, it's the best money you will ever spend. |

I'm definitely considering movers, mostly because of the distance this time. Don't have too much stuff outside my film collection  |

It's surprisingly inexpensive for these type rentals. |
Re: Are you ever ashamed of or overwhelmed by your media collection?
Yea, I was going to suggest a UHaul as well.

Get a Uhaul, you won't be sorry.

Re: Are you ever ashamed of or overwhelmed by your media collection?
Ashamed? Of course not. I'm a physical media person and that's not gonna change (amazon has crapped out on me tonight about a half dozen times. Yay, streaming?)
I moved four years ago to where I am now and I went from having a basement theater to an unfinished basement. So my collection is still in boxes/tubs. I'm currently working on finishing the basement so I'm looking forward to displaying things again. |
Re: Are you ever ashamed of or overwhelmed by your media collection?
No, but I am running out of Space to store my DVDs, Blu-rays and now 4K disks.
Have about 1,290 disk. (gave away MANY DVDs and BR as I have upgraded to 4K) 400 DVDs 800 Blu-Rays 90 4K |
Re: Are you ever ashamed of or overwhelmed by your media collection?
Thank you to everyone who suggested renting a U-Haul for my move.
I had never rented one before, so a friend & I rented a 10' truck for about 12-hours. We were able to move about 85-90% of my apartment in a single trip, including about 99% of my collection in about 5-6 hours. Still not done moving, as adjustments to my work schedule (due to COVID-19) have made things a bit tricky. |

Re: Are you ever ashamed of or overwhelmed by your media collection?
In the last 3-4 years, I probably reduced my collection by probably 40-45% and I still think I have too much. Mostly reduced it by donating stuff to the library, selling to FYE and Book Off.
There's still quite a few discs in my collection that I am glad that I own because they are no longer in print. |
Re: Are you ever ashamed of or overwhelmed by your media collection?
Once I pull all my stuff out I need to go through all the DVDs. Most of those will probably go away, especially the kid movies since my kiddos are teenagers now.

Re: Are you ever ashamed of or overwhelmed by your media collection?
They MIGHT want them back someday! My biggest mistake was getting rid of my 1970s kids' records when I thought I was too old for them (and perhaps I've overcompensated as a result). Nowadays there seems to be nostalgia for the crappiest kid-related stuff from the 90s which I've always been too old for.

Given the recent shopping trends, it looks like hoarding is coming back in a big way! ;)
