Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
bluray.com is reporting all four original Batman movies are coming to 4k as individual releases on June 4th. A box set will follow on September 17. I have yet to go 4k, but I don't know if I'll buy these just yet. Im kind of confused, will there be new extras for the box set?
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=24892 Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release four classic Batman films on 4K Blu-ray: Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns, and Joel Schumacher's Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. All four titles will be available for purchase on June 4. A four-disc collection will also be available for purchase on September 17. All four films will feature a Dolby Atmos soundtrack remixed specifically for the home theater environment to place and move audio anywhere in the room, including overhead. Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever and Batman & Robin will be available on 4K Blu-ray Combo Pack for $41.99 SRP and feature a 4K Blu-ray disc with the feature film in 4K with HDR as well as DIGITALLY REMASTERED Blu-ray disc of the films. The singles and the four-film collection will include collectible packaging with new art designed in stunning glossy retro colors reminiscent of the 1980's and 1990's era when the films were originally released in theaters. The 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray versions of the films will collectively include more than 17 hours of previously released extras, including full-length commentaries by director Tim Burton on Batman and Batman Returns and director Joel Schumacher on Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. |

I might get at least the first one at some, but that artwork is horrible. |
Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
I really wish they went back to the original poster artwork on all four movies.

Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
Eh, I'll spend as much as I did with the blu box set, which I think was $14.99.

Wow. That cover art is atrocious. I'm pretty satisfied with my BDs of Batman and Batman Returns.

Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
I think it's extremely doubtful there will be new extras. WB already produced a massive 4-part documentary for the original DVD box set that was ported over to the BD set.
If you aren't 4K ready, I don't see why you would need this unless you have to double dip on the BDs and then end up with the main disc you can't even use. |
Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
Man, those are some fugly box covers. :(
Waiting for the reviews on this before making a purchase...although I'm glad they're releasing them individually, as I'd only be interested in the Michael Keaton/Tim Burton films. |
Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
Artwork looks like ass, but will pick up the first two.
Not sure why the delay in a collection of the 4 |
Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
Dang, no love for Robin on the covers :(

Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
IF there are any new extras it would be nice if Batman had deleted scenes. They were shown in the making of documentary that was made for the dvds in 2005. Also this summer will be the 30th anniversary of Batman (89) and I hope there might be some theaters in town that might screen the 4k remastered version.

Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
Have to assume the 4-disc collection will be cheaper, right? Learnd my lesson with the Matrix - bought the first one for like $25 and then saw i could have gotten all 3 for like $50-ish in the pack. Really want these in spite of the fucked up art. Might be one of the rare cases where I do custom art.

Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
The really sad part about the covers is that the person/people responsible for creating them most likely went to four plus years of college to get a degree in design.
|
Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
 @ Robin not being anywhere on the cover of Batman & Robin.
I mean, I get it. It's Batman out front plus colored, lower-opacity shots of his enemies behind him, but damn. Chris O'Donnell's been left out in the cold. Spoiler:

Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
Uma Thurman missing on Batman & Robin cover is also odd considering the other sequel covers.

Got an email from WB shop, they have pictures of the backs listing the features:

Didn’t bluelitespecial answer his own question with the press quote about “previously released extras”? |

Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
Behind the scenes documentaries have to be split now. They can't produce 2-2 1/2 hour films like they did in the past for BD and DVD releases. Otherwise you have to pay the actors as if they are making a movie. Short ones under 30 minutes only count as promotional material that the actors have to participate in as required in their contracts to promote the movie.

Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
Well, if the Nolan 4K releases are any indication, the complete set will probably just bundle the four standalone releases as-is, without slipcases, inside a box with a Batman logo on it.
We're probably stuck with those. |
Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
That is some very ugly cover art.
|
Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
That cover art is terrible. With no new bonuses I'm content with holding onto my 4 Film Favorites Blu-Ray until the box set drops to under $30ish.

Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
WTF were they thinking with those covers? |
Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
My friend was also telling me that there’s going to be some anniversary showings of the Burton and Schumacher films. I’m going to try and see at least Batman theatrically as I’ve always wanted to see it on a big screen. Where I’m at the shows are in May. |

A Fathom Events screening of all four Batman movies are on the way. I'll be going to Batman and Batman Returns.

Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
It looks like Best Buy is getting an exclusive 4K steelbook. It's listed at $90 and coming soon.
|
Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
The first Fathom events screening was this past weekend with the Original Batman. Batman Returns is tonight. It sounds like some of the sound effects might have been updated.
|
Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
Missed the Fathom Events showing of Batman disappointingly. I would have had to have traveled for it and couldn’t get the day off. That’s been on top of my classic movies to see theatrically too so kind of a bummer as it was a perfect opportunity. |
Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
I have seen it twice theatrically in recent years plus I was there in 1989 to watch it on the big screen. I screwed up as I thought it played during the week but it was one day only. |
Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
I got to see it this weekend. I loved the updated sound effects, if we're being honest. I always hated the 1950's gun effects and bangs. I'm sure this will be controversial once this comes out, though i believe the original mix is going to be included
|
Re: Batman (1989-1997) 4K- 6/4/19 and 9/17/19
So these Fathom "prints" are from the 4k sources? I guess that's what we're going to get in 4k?
