Thanks for the suggestion. They're in 4K SDR on Peacock, so going to watch there. If I like the show enough then I'll splurge on the sets. If not, no biggie.

I like Columbo and I've got the complete DVD set that includes the run it had on ABC in the 80s-90s. I've watched it on and off over the years. The commentaries are a nice add in this new set, but I doubt I'd ever go through though all those.
I didn't know it was on Peacock in 4K. That's good enough for the occasional watch for me (thanks for that info
). I'll probably pass on this set on unless it hits a really low bargain price.

I hope you like it.
Youre in for a treat.
There are two episode television movies that aired a few years before the series.
Prescription Murder in 1968
Ransom for a Dead man 1971
Both very good but a much different tone from the show.
And keep in mind that Spielberg directed ep 1 of the series.

Nice! I just added the two films to the queue.

Wrapped up the two films and S1 on Peacock. On to S2 E1 and John Cassavates is the guest star, along with Blythe Danner. The show rules. Kind of funny when I think about it when I was kid, as soon as I knew the reruns were coming on, it was time to flip the channel.

Wtf
Did they not have permission for all those new commentaries from Universal or something?
Well, unless it's a damn good price, it's a pass from me. I'm good with my DVDs.

A kinda-sorta similar example are a couple of Media Blasters' Godzilla releases. They included extras that weren't approved by Toho and had to be recalled, with bare-bones reissues quickly following.

I wonder, can KL release the commentaries online (like via iTunes or Spotfiy) and you would just have to sink it up with your own copy?

I was tempted to triple dip for the new commentaries, but without those an easy pass. This isn’t the type of show where I’ll care much about the video upgrade HD brings.

Amazon lists the Blu-ray Set #1 as December 19 now.
If you can't wait, or you don't mind having SD now while you wait for HD to come down in price, The Complete Series (Seasons 1-7 plus both the 1989-90 and 1991-2003 Mystery Movies) are at Amazon on DVD for $25.99 right now, just had my camelcamelcamel alert hit my inbox.

They're also all on Peacock, as well. Some of the seasons are also in 4K SDR, as well.
