Re: Game of Thrones: The Complete Seventh Season - December 12th, 2017
Amazon initially put up one "standard" GoT S7 BD set to preorder. They just added another "standard" GoT S7 BD preorder with a different price and different photo. That new photo highlights a bonus disc.
However, that bonus disc is included with every version of GoT S7, even though it wasn't pictured in the original entry. Since they're both the same release (not different versions, not special editions, not exclusives, etc.), presumably the duplicate will be removed/merged at some point.
HBO announced the bonus disc last month, with no indication of it being exclusive to a particular retailer or limited to a pricier edition.
The confusion is probably just terrible communication on HBO's part to retailers. A lot of retailers still have stub cover art, basically no one has full specs, etc.

Jeeze, so many different versions of this - I'm leaning towards Target's with the bonus disc, but I don't like the cover, what with the close up of that dude's face. I like both the BB sigil (though I woudln't quite call it a sigil, but it's a cool cover), and their steelbook, but there's no bonus disc.

I'm not sure WTF is going on, but my Target preorder with the $5 gift card from August still hasn't shipped yet.

It's funny, about an hour after I posted that I got the shipping email. As long as we can start watching by this weekend, all is well.

My Amazon exclusive with that Rebellion disc whatever that is is coming tomorrow. Didn’t realize when it first went up for preorder it was only $33.99. Never saw that before, especially with bonus disc...

Did anyone get the Target version yet? I haven't been able to find any info to confirm that it includes the Conquest & Rebellion disc, along with their exclusive bonus disc.

The Conquest & Rebellion disc is supposed to be a limited time bonus with ALL versions.
Regarding that other amazon.co.uk bonus feature - "Building the Unimaginable: Inside the VFX Department" - does anyone know if that's available in any of the other US releases? It's supposed to be about 29 minutes.
I ended up ordering the Target version but I went with the amazon.co.uk versions of Season 6 last year. Season 7 can be had for around $37 shipped to the US. I was on the fence about ordering it this time but I figure that all of those bonus features are going to be in inevitable complete series set (hopefully in 4K).

Got it in the mail today and listened to the commentary track for episode 7. It was the first time Lena Headey saw the episode and she did not read the script for scenes she was not in, so it's hilarious and awesome to hear her reactions to the jaw-dropping events of the finale.

Stupid target.com sent me the regular version when I definitely ordered the exclusive version. They did this to me before, for Season 4 or 5. Really unbelievable how bad their online presence is in 2017.
They were going to have me ship back the regular version and they submitted a replacement order that wasn't scheduled to arrive until January 1-3. I told them that this was unacceptable as it was supposed to be a Christmas gift (and it truly is, it's a gift for me from my parents - I used their Red Card). They ended up cancelling the replacement and told me that I did not have to send back the regular version. They then had me re-order the exclusive with the $15 Express shipping and then took $15 off the order.
So I'll be getting the replacement tomorrow, but I won't be shocked if I get the regular version again. If that happens then I guess I'll be hitting a store or two on Saturday morning hoping they still have copies of the exclusive (that have not been ruined by the stupid spider web security thingies).
I'm not sure what I am going to do with the extra copy (eBay maybe) but I'm glad that it works out in my favor. It still took almost 45 minutes chatting with them to get it resolved.

This is the first time I have not actually seen the Target exclusive in stores. I was at two different stores this week and only saw the regular versions, which I thought was very odd.

Most stores in my area (and there are a lot of them) have copies available for in store pick up. Maybe those near you got fewer copies and already sold out. I know my local store has sold out a few times on the second or third day it was on sale.

There was far less of a clamor for this season's release than any other (and copies on shelves), especially weird considering it was close to Christmas.
Another sign of the dwindling physical media market?

All very solid theories. I'd also add the season 8 premiere being so far off. I wonder if there's less excitement in rewatching season 7 when the next season is supposedly more than a year away.

My take is:
Higher price, fewer episodes, lower price later, S8 not airing for at least another year, Christmas release. Why get in a hurry? Especially if you watched it live.
