Yeah, that certainly seems to be what everyone is saying. What a disappointment, but like Bluelitespecial said, you know there'll be another release before too much longer (and another and another and...).

since Cameron supervised i wonder if the DNR is either Cameron hating grain or something that came up because of the 3D conversion too

Probably a little from column A and a little from column B.

A "skip it' review from here is now up. Not good :(

I say Meh to that review.

Also, DNR is not a bad 3 letter word... it is an acronym of the 3 words...

Dagnabbit...would have been happy to pick this up, but I will continue to enjoy the film when it pops up on the Syfy channel. I have the blu ray in my digital collection, but when I stumble onto the film during a basic cable airing I tend not to change the channel and often hit record on my tivo (I can rewatch Arnold single handedly taking down an entire police and SWAT force on a loop all day long).

This could be December 31, 2017 or December 2031. Sadly, with Cameron it’s impossible to tell which.

Well, it says 12/26 for the U.S. release and the UK one is already available.

I was hoping the review would display screenshots even comparisons; to show the flaws. :(

This is the old US BD compared to the new UK remaster, which I presume is the same as the US one. It's not 4k, but it should give a good idea of what went wrong.

The lionsgate looks like shit compared to the UK in terms of resolution. The UK is crisp but looks too blue.

Does the 2015 Blu-ray really look that bad? I thought that was supposed to be the good release.

And yeah, the color grading on the new one is terrible.

Not at all. In fact, that is the definitive version.

The UK is DNR'd straight to hell. It's not Predator Ultimate Hunter edition bad, but it's really bad. Inexcusable for 2017.

The 2015 blu is essentially the original blu from 2009 but with no DNR and no filtering.

That's right- it's an instruction for anyone who might find this release lying face-down in a ditch: do not resuscitate.

Re: Terminator 2 4K UHD - 12/26/2017

I decided to get the new disc, it was $16.99 at my walmart. At first glance I like the CGI fixes, and improved detail in the picture quality in a lot of scenes in the movie. Watching the SE version the transition between the remastered scenes and SE aren't as bad as I thought they would be. But the middle act in the desert is probably the only part of the movie that felt the transfer was really inconsistant in varying quality. I still don't get why the SE scenes couldn't get a complete remaster, but I'm sure its not the last release we will see. I used the digital copy code and couldn't even get the remastered cut.

Cancelled my pre-order after the early reviews, but ended up picking it up at Wal-Mart two days ago. I think it's worth picking up when it's on sale or reduced price. It's better than the two previous blus, despite its obvious flaws. It's pretty wild how much the amount of detail varies from scene to scene, but imo it's more of a step in the right direction.

Complete and utter pass. Don't support shoddy, tealified DNR'd revisionism, people! Even when the carrot is waved in your face at a 'low' price, that's no deal at all, as it tells those rapacious producers that you've validated their efforts at changing the way the film looks.

Re: Terminator 2 4K UHD - 12/26/2017

So this means the most recent stand-alone BD release (with Arnold on the motorcycle) is the best option, correct? I think it comes with a DC as well.

Bluelitespecial 01-10-18 09:11 PM

Re: Terminator 2 4K UHD - 12/26/2017

The newest release only has the theatrical cut is remastered. The SE is not and the scenes stick out really bad. The 2015 with the Arnold on the motorcycle is the best release for all versions of the movie.

Re: Terminator 2 4K UHD - 12/26/2017

Other than the obvious slight loss of detail during close up facial shots, I think it looks pretty good...particularly with the addition of HDR.
The new color grading doesn't bother me.

Okay so I read on the Digital Bits that the 4k T2 disc is getting re-released on July 17th along with the Endo-Skeleton arm deluxe set. Will this new release fix the problems of the 4k remaster, or include a full remaster of the Special Edition cut on Bluray? Will there be some sort of exchange for owners of the current 2 disc set, could that be possible?

I bet they just re-releasing the endo-arm. I doubt they going to re-release it with grain.
