FWIW I've only ever watched the extended cut and never knew there was recently recorded dubbing. Now that I'm aware I have a feeling I will notice it next time I watch it.

Re: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly- New Remaster w/ both cuts this Summer 2017!

I've looked over most of this release and can say it could be the version to get, but only for the casual movie fan. The more savvy videophiles will no doubt have trouble with this one. It seems to be that yet another "look" has been added to the continuing color debacle plaguing this film on home video.
It is the first to include the shorter version of the film in HD. It also includes the Extended version on disc 2, re-timed (color) the same as the short version, and using the MGM 4K re-master as the source. It does not look as good as the MGM 4K (color issues aside) due to Kino's contrast boosting and possible compression issues. The blacks on the most recent MGM are not good either, but I'm getting a more film like experience from the MGM.
There are issues with the extras on both discs. The "Theatrical" disc has a transfer frame rate issue with the Leone Westerns Trailers. The MGM extras on the "Extended" disc suffer a similar problem where the video has a stuttering quality. These all look fine on the MGM re-master disc, and have no problem doing so sharing the disc with the extended version of the film. Why Kino had an issue I do not know, but could be something to do with disc space on their release, but if this bothers you, I'd hang onto the MGM Blu-ray.

Really? Which release is that? Isn't that the yellowish tinted print?

The Leone Anthology with the 3 Eastwood movies and Duck, You Sucker? That's like a 10 year old release. It's out of date for sure.

Kino put this on their FB page today.

KLSC POST ELECTION DAY POLL!

Should we release THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY on 4K-UHD?

• The release would ONLY include the Extended 179 minute cut • The master would be the current unaltered MGM 4K master
(Previously released on Blu-ray 10/7/14)

Please LIKE for Yes - And select ANGRY for No

The lack of the 161 minute cut makes the Blu-ray the preferred option for me.

Ugh. Why does it have to be the extended cut only?

Kino's rep on blu-ray.com responded to someone else asking the same:

To be clear, "the current unaltered MGM 4K master" means it will have the yellow tint that everybody complained about on the MGM Blu-ray.

I was never bothered by that to be honest. I don't have the most recent BD though to compare though.

They took the comments down on the FB post due to negative comments, many of which were from people that just bought the BD.

So they don't get stuck with unsold Blu-ray inventory.

True, but I suspect they will dump most of it eventually with one of their sales.

I'll rephrase my question. Why did they choose the Extended cut over the Theatrical Cut (98' MGM cut). IMO, it's the best version.

They're working with what MGM will give them. For the last Blu-ray, Kino took MGM's yellow-tinted Extended Cut master and tried to recreate the theatrical cut by editing out the extra footage and playing with the color grading. I assume that work was done at 1080p and they can't afford to do it all over again for 4k.

Since I don't have a dog in this fight, does anybody want me to vote a certain way on their Facebook page for them?

Vote yes for UHD. If anything to show that there is vested interest in 4K releases.

Done. Right now it's running about 900 Yes and 76 no.

Ya'll better buy this if they make it.
