It's already been released in HD DVD, the look and sound of perfection.

Pre-'90s catalog titles on Ultra HD Blu-ray are rare from any studio, but it's especially tough with Universal. I think the list begins and ends with E.T., right?

It's tough because even if Animal House did look amazing in 4K, I'd bet people would just assume there's no real benefit and skip right past it.

Re: UHD release announcements

Did anyone buy Van Wilder on UHD? (I have it on D-VHS!)

HD-DVD? D-VHS? What are these secretive formats...?

I actually didn’t know Van Wilder was on UHD. Not a 4K title I was gunning for.

Well done concerts are F'ing amazing on disc. Sure they are supposed to be listened to. But some of them are freaking amazing production numbers. Queensyrche, Nine Inch Nails, etc, etc, etc as well. And then put on disc with Atmos sound and 4k visuals, SIGN ME THE HECK UP for some 4k releases.

Anyway, in other news Evil Dead comes to 4k next week. Just a reminder. Speaking of Lionsgate, I picked up Punisher and Punisher: War Zone over the past week and they are pretty nice.

UGH! Stop supporting incomplete releases. Punisher (2004), The Patriot, and T2 can all go fuck themselves until the extended cuts go UHD.

Sorry . If it makes you feel any better I don't own T2 because it was a horrible transfer. Patriot I got with a 2-fer (w/ Quick & The Dead) because I couldn't find anything else (so I'll probably dump it eventually knowing me).

But I love that version of the Punisher and yes I know the only extended cut is on DVD, but ya know it wasn't included on the American version of the blu-ray, nor the UK version of the blu-ray (which I also own).

So what am I supposed to do? Keep watching the crummy old dvd on my 4k television with my 4k player and surround sound? Okay...might as well bust out the vhs tapes too. *sigh*. No, instead I took out a 3-disc 4k case, put in the UK blu-ray with the rest of the 4k set and called it a day. Done and done.

Yeah. I keep watching the Punisher on DVD. It's fine. The BD of the Patriot always seemed heavy on the red to me though. Curious if the UHD is the same, but I refuse to watch the shorter cut. It's weird nobody mentions it. I've got over 1000 BDs now, and that's the only one that bugs me.

I'm sure the chances of that combo playing without issue today are the same as they were the day it was released....50/50?

So far I've only had 1 HD DVD stop playing smoothly and that one stopped way back when the format was still current. Regardless I am slowly either getting rid of the discs or upgrading to BR or 4K when the time is right.

That's another thing that pisses me off. I still have 2 out of 40ish HD-DVDs that never got released on BD--Getaway (1994) and Black Xmas 2006.

I would get that. I love war films and my current copy is my son's who I expect to be taking with him when he moves out.

Re: UHD release announcements

If the 2 1/2 hour making of documentary is on it, I’ll be down for that.

I only have the special edition DVD that has the documentary.

Re: UHD release announcements

Not sure if international releases are supposed to be listed here, but I just came across a Zavvi listing for an Evil Dead 2 4K steelbook. It has a November 5, 2018 release date and is listed as Out of Stock for some reason.

Re: UHD release announcements

So Cliffhanger, of all things (not Tango and Cash or Stallone's other really good movies), gets a UHD but Avenging Angelo STILL hasn't been released on blu-ray. That pisses me off.

Re: UHD release announcements

Cliffhanger fucking rocks. And since the whole movie takes place outdoors, I'm sure it will look fantastic.

Re: UHD release announcements

Sony releasing Cliffhanger doesn't prevent Warner from releasing Avenging Angelo or Tango & Cash.

Re: UHD release announcements

Cliffhanger was one of the last big 70mm releases also.

The manufacturer Warner used for their HD-DVDs had some serious problems, many of those discs are now rotted. I collected every title on the format when they were clearing it out but I’ve given up on it now.

Re: UHD release announcements

Universal is listing Schindler's List as coming to Ultra HD Blu-ray. 2 discs. Dolby Vision. Dolby Atmos. The early listing on bestbuy.com indicated 12/18, so maybe that's still the plan.
