Re: UHD release announcements

It is not available at Amazon

I don't think it ever got a U.S. Blu-ray release.

Re: UHD release announcements

Vinegar Syndrome has Reptilicus in their July slate. This set also includes the Danish cut which has never gotten hit DVD or BD in the U.S., although that cut didn't get the UHD treatment.

Re: UHD release announcements

I remember liking the movie when I was young. Fairly recently saw it on a streaming service. Unfortunately, for me, it didn't age well. I will say the movie looks like it got a nice transfer

Re: UHD release announcements

It's basically the Japan release with English subtitles and Toho is basically releasing it themselves at the Godzilla Store.

Yeah, that's way too much when only the movie itself is getting subs; plus, there will almost certainly be a more official U.S. release sometime next year.

Re: UHD release announcements

Body Double is definitely a movie to own in 4K.

Probably best end credits of all time.

For the boutiques, a lot of it comes down to what they can get their hands on. If someone won't license them The African Queen but will offer them Link or Reptilicus...well, Link or Reptilicus is what you're gonna get. Or if they can get the rights to a movie but can't unearth suitable elements (or the licensor says "this is all we're gonna give you"), Blu-ray is the best they can really do. I'm sure Blue Underground would be champing at the bit to release Dario Argento's Inferno in UHD, but if there isn't an extant UHD master and elements won't be made available to them to make one, they (and we!) are S.O.L.

There are some cases where I just...don't get it, like KLSC skipping a UHD release of Fletch -- which was being newly remastered! -- but the story is generally pretty boring. Of course, the majors don't really have that same excuse, but those sorts of "what? why?!" titles tend to be fewer and farther between there.

Sony Pictures Classics should still have rights in the U.S. (theater, DVD, digital).

Re: UHD release announcements

What is SDR and can you post their explanation? I don't want to visit or support X.

"So before everyone asks, the master was created from the original DI master, we tried to create a HDR/Dolby Vision master, but ran into many issues that could not be resolved, we dropped the Dolby Vision to see if it would make a difference, but it didn't. So our 2 choices were to either release it on 4K using a UHD SDR master or cancel the release altogether, we think we made the right choice."

I will read up on that. Haven't heard that term before in regard to 4K stuff.
