The Iron Giant - 9/6/16

Release date confirmed at WonderCon.

There'll be a more traditional release as well, but marvel at this beauty ($74.99 MSRP):

I that little figure is plastic, it appears to be the same mold as the one given out with VHS copies way back in the day. This time just put on a stand rather than as a loose figure.

I can't wait to pick up the normal BD release. Looks like it even gets a slipcover.

Geez, wonder what took so long? The Signature Edition was in theaters last September.

I put it on pre-order, but I'm hoping that price drops before. I really do want this set.

It looks like the book that's included in the Collector's set won't be published until August, so maybe a delay in the book pushed the Blu-ray back.

The DVD of the "Signature Edition" was released in Feb.

Here's the pre-order link for the Blu-ray Collector's set:

Back in my collector's days I would be all over this. But, nowadays, just the regular BD is fine.

Bought the Signature Series DVD for $7.50 at Target not too long ago.

Will be in for the regular BD.

I'll probably just go for the regular edition. I like the film but I'm not a big enough fan to want the deluxe set.

That deluxe set is beautiful...but $75? Guess I should sit back and wait for that thing to be a deal of the day for about $40. :)

I'll get the deluxe edition when it comes out. And then again when it's a deal of the day in a year or two. Yes, I am that guy.

Ever since BR won the HD Disk War in 2008, I have been waiting for "The Iron Giant" to come out in Blu-Ray.

Sept 6th, I think I will take the day off from work so I can put the movie on endless loop that day.

Dang, I was so excited when I say "The Iron Giant" coming out on BR I started my own thread.

Then right after starting the thread, I saw this tread...day late and a dollar short I guess.

Re: The Iron Giant Coming to BR on Sept 6th - SO EXCITED

Yes, I saw that thread right after I started this one...after all these years, I cannot believe I was the 2nd one to post a thread on this.

Maybe the Mods will have compassion on me and let BOTH threads stay...my UserID has been "Iron_Giant" since 2001.

C'mon, mods, merge the threads and make Iron_Giant the OP. Adam, you're cool with that, right? His flippin' user name is Iron_Giant C'mooon!

I can't make him the OP without changing the timestamp of his post (and I'm not sure how, if at all, I can do that). I'm visiting family right now and don't seem to be able to moderate posts/threads on my phone. I'll merge stuff as soon as I'm in front of a computer again (unless someone else beats me to it).

Thanks for the support...this movie has so much meaning to me.

I was one of the few people in the theater when it first came out. I never go to a movie alone, but no one in my family wanted to go...so I had to sit all by myself and LOVED every minute of the movie.

Huge Superman fan from my childhood until today, I was in awe how they tied him into the Iron Giant and how it made the Giant a better "Robot/Person".

54 now, so when I was younger I watched a ton of B&W 50's Sci-Fi films...once again Bird captured the nostalgic 50's feel perfectly.
-Very funny and intense move all at the same time

An animated movie aimed directly at adults.

Just messing with, but kudos to liking this movie so much. I watched it twice in theaters, once by myself. But I have to say, this movie isn't aimed directly at adults, older children get it as well, at least on that friendship level Hogarth had with the Iron Giant. My oldest daughter is now 12 and watched it for the first time last year. She greatly enjoyed it. She asked a lot about the "pencil look" (i.e. non-CGI) and funny other small things. She really paid attention to a lot details. This movie definitely resonates across a lot of age groups.

You are 100% true...Coffee scene gets me laughing every time. Young enjoy it, but adults can also love the movie.

Bird is a genius, looking forward to "The Incredibles 2"

I blame Damon Lindelof for that, along with many other things.

To a lot of us maybe. To younger folks like my kid, she loved it. It's not up with with Bird's best stuff, but it certainly wasn't bad. Lindelof is definitely to blame for it, not so much Bird.

Sure it is. I was one of his biggest supporters when it came time for that flick to be released, because till then he had a perfect track record in my eyes. Too bad it sucked.

Starting from a good script is job #1 for a director.

The problem with that for Tomorrowland is that it started as a story idea developed by Bird, Lindelof, and Jeff Jensen together. So Bird was a director on the film before there was a finished script.
http://www.ew.com/article/2013/01/28...s-tomorrowland

It's somewhat similar to how Stephen Spielberg was committed to Indy 4 before a final script had been approved.

That's not a problem; you finalize the script before you proceed with pre-production. Again, it's the most important job a director can do.

I think this is getting too tangential a discussion for this thread, but my point is that with a good script, Brad Bird can deliver great films, while every script Damon Lindelof touches is shit.

For the signature edition, not the one with extra goodies (the one that is still priced at $74.99 is the Signature Edition Ultimate Collector's Edition).
