"We Are Your Friends" is not Blu-Ray's friend
Likely nobody cares about this movie anyways, but it appears that Warner is not releasing it on Blu-Ray in the US- it's got an early "digital" release (the new DIVX) right now, and next week on old standard-def DVD. It IS coming out on Blu in Europe and Australia, so at least ordering from there is an option. Disappointing for the format in general, this looks like a guilty pleasure.

DIVX was extra steps to used a gimped product with no additional convenience, Vudu/iTunes/Amazon is a step less at a higher price and extremely convenient.
(Well that, and DIVX lasted 18 months where as this stuff has been around for 8 years).
Regardless, yeah no big surprise there, We Are Your Friends cost them $2m to acquire and they already know it has limited interest so no real surprise in them not wanting to put any more money behind it.

How is a digital release at all comparable to DIVX?

Because The Powers That Be have the ultimate decision on whether or not you get to watch it. And not having to go out to get it might be convenient, but it's not so much if you or them are having internet problems. I mainly resent the trend of releasing movies on that several weeks before they're available on disc- that's a blatant attempt to get people to switch to buying all their movies that way; if it was really good then people would buy them anyways even with discs available. And bottom line is the quality isn't as good as Blu-Ray, though it is admittedly better than DVD. Seems like if they decided to put it out on just one format, it should've been Blu-Ray.
I get the concern on wanting a blu-ray instead, and yes they are better quality (BD that is), agreed there, but it's sort of the whole MP3 situation again where convenience trumps a slight quality degradation. I prefer buying BDs and using the codes for a digital copy over buying just a digital copy, but will partake in that with an occasional "Same Day as Theaters" release which existed on Cable Boxes before it moved online.
But regardless, poor comparison with DIVX, it may not be perfect but it's a hell of a lot better than that POS was. Plus it's way better for those of us that travel a lot.

Ha, just read the review on the site. Didn't know it wasn't getting a BD release in the states. Looks horrible, though.

It's a guilty pleasure, but it's no High School Musical.

Dude, I've seen your place. You need to stop buying "guilty pleasures."

Didn't buy this one, I got it to review. Sometimes guilty pleasures are more fun than "good" movies. This would've looked good on Blu, but I likely won't import it unless I actually find myself in one of the countries that has it. Some full-blown dance numbers would've made this better.

interestingly the German bluray has the Dolby Atmos mix.
as does the UK bluray edition too.

We recently rented Sleeping with Other People from our local library. It was actually pretty funny and I love me some Alison Brie, so I went to check out Amazon to see how much the Blu Ray was going for, and was surprised that it didn't get a US release. I guess you could buy the DVD that comes with a digital HD copy, but I was surprised that they skipped the release.

Sleeping with Other People did get a Blu-ray release in Canada...and with extras that aren't on the DVD on this side of the border. It's pretty cheap to import from amazon.ca if you're interested. (I did!)
I'm also surprised that it didn't get a Blu-ray release over here, but at least this time there are options, and that's not always the case.

Yeah, I saw that Amazon Canada has it, but I've never imported a DVD or Blu Ray. Just found it a little odd that they wouldn't bring it to the US.
