I think I've gotten rid of anything in the "hate" category. I don't blind buy anything anymore so I know I haven't added any stinkers in years. Occasionally there is something I liked in the theater, then bought it used or on a bargain then wondered why I liked it so much. I have hundreds of movies on the shelf that I never have time to watch. I'm not going to waste any more time or money on crap.

The Campaign

After viewing Michael Cimino's "Heavens Gate" for the very first time this week, I would not put this film as a strong contender for repeat viewings. Though beautifully photographed, at times, Cimino seemed to believe the old west was constantly engulfed by dust and smoke. I even recall Siskel & Ebert humorously pointing this out during a televised review. The film is long and plodding and requires a great deal of patience as the story unfolds. Interestingly, it has become fashionable to regard this film as a "masterpiece" by those who fancy themselves as cinema elitists. I also realize it has earned a great deal of respect recently as critics have "re-evaluated" its merits. But for the most part, I think they got it right the first time. Who knows, it might grow on me eventually but I will really have to be in the mood to invest my time in another viewing.
