Re: The One and Only Kino Lorber Blu-ray Thread

A bunch of UHD titles from KL Studio Classics are going out of print, and they're part of the current OOP sale:

12 Angry Men (4KUHD)
Dressed to Kill (4KUHD)
The Great Escape (4KUHD)
In the Heat of the Night (4KUHD)
Killer's Kiss (4KUHD)
The Killing (4KUHD)
The Manchurian Candidate (4KUHD)
The Night of the Hunter (4KUHD)
Paths of Glory (4KUHD)
Some Like It Hot (4KUHD)
All MGM titles. I wonder if Criterion gobbled them up. Silence of the Lambs is not a part of this.

I saw this. I have a few of them. I'm debating getting the others I'm interested in. I guess the questions are whether these will get re-released by Criterion and what can they add to the current releases.

I'm at the point where I don't care all that much about extras, so it's really about whether they can improve image quality. I have read iffy things about Killer's Kiss and The Killing so might wait on those. I trust Arrow more for The Great Escape.

Re: The One and Only Kino Lorber Blu-ray Thread

Noticed a couple of pre-orders for two titles previously released by Kino, Steve De Jarnatt’s CHERRY 2000 and MIRACLE MILE. These are both really good movies and the previous editions were more than fine, but they’ve really gone nuts with these versions. CHERRY 2000 has probably over ten hours of supplements if you count the two commentaries, and MIRACLE MILE likely isn’t far off that tally (with some duplication). The director, who’s presumably retired, must’ve wanted these to be definitive editions of his only two features. Otherwise I’m not sure these are titles that people were begging to see upgraded. The nice thing is, being Kino, these will be easy to upgrade cheap in a future sale.

Re: The One and Only Kino Lorber Blu-ray Thread

This thread doesn’t get updated often, so I figured I’d dump a bunch of pre-order artwork for titles coming out over the next few months (including some previously mentioned here). Looks like I need to go through some of my old ‘didn’t-know-they-were-OOP’ Shout discs to consider selling them off, and maybe an Olive or two, not sure. Most of these seem to repeat previous extras and add commentaries.

Additional titles here:

Re: The One and Only Kino Lorber Blu-ray Thread

This X feed is reporting the 4K discs of Daylight are being pulled. It just got released 2 days ago. I'm assuming no one here bought it yet since Kino 4Ks are pretty expensive on initial release.

I don't see any confirmation on what the issue is.

The folks over at you know where hypothesize that it might be a licensing issue they didn't catch until after they pressed it. Also, Dante's Peak has also been pulled, even after it had gotten rescheduled to the end of May.

I got mine cheap from Target with some media sale. It got delivered while I'm on a metal cruise, so I asked a neighbor to pick it up for me off my porch. Hopefully he doesn't read this forum about the rarity

Bill Hunt on the Daylight and Dante's Peak 4K discs:

Heads up Bits readers, this is Bill : I’ve reached out to Kino Lorber classics and learned that their 4K Ultra HDs of DAYLIGHT (1996) and DANTE’S PEAK (1997) have been delayed indefinitely, however they are not cancelled. Stay tuned for updates and with luck they’ll be back on the schedule later this year. FYI, the Daylight disc is NOT defective, so if you have it... enjoy and count yourself lucky to have it early.

The movie the 10th Victim is pretty cool. I just caught that streaming recently on Prime? I think.

I would recommend it for anyone to check it out.

The Phantom!

A release I will most likely pick up. Saw the film in theaters and I even used to have a set of trading cards for this film. Definitely a fan of this movie.

Also, nice to find out I did not miss the UHD of Dante’s Peak as its release has just been delayed.

The Mechanic is coming to 4K. I think I'm good with my BD. Can't upgrade everything.

Re: The One and Only Kino Lorber Blu-ray Thread

Kino just announced on Facebook that Four Rooms is coming to 4k and I'm guessing it will be some time this year. I don't even think it got a US blu-ray release. This a day one buy for me. I remember renting the VHS based solely on the names involved and loved it. So many laugh out loud moments.

Re: The One and Only Kino Lorber Blu-ray Thread

I'm surprised to see Night of the Juggler get a 4K release. That's kind of an obscure early 80s James Brolin thriller.

Weird that Airplane 2 gets a 4K release, yet the first one doesn't have one.

I have Remo Williams on a region coded Arrow UK release from years ago. I might get the new 4K when it goes on sale at some point.

I think Paramount might go all "prestige" on the first film and release it themselves.

Airplane is available on 4K as part of the ZAZ Collection set, with Top Secret and The Naked Gun.
