Exodus: Gods and Kings (March 17, '15)

from HighDefDigest:

In an early announcement to retailers, 20th Century Fox will bring 'Exodus: Gods and Kings' to Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D on March 17.

From acclaimed director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Prometheus) comes the epic adventure "Exodus: Gods and Kings," the story of one man's daring courage to take on the might of an empire. Using state-of-the-art visual effects and 3D immersion, Scott brings new life to the story of the defiant leader Moses (Christian Bale) as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses (Joel Edgerton), setting 600,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.

Supplements have yet to be revealed, but each release will feature 1080p video and a Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

The Blu-ray has a suggestion list price of $39.99 while the Blu-ray 3D is $49.99.

now interestingly there seems to some vagueness regarding this release:

1) some running times list the bluray at 165 minutes - 15 minutes longer than the theatrical cut - this hasn't been confirmed.

2) Fox's first Dolby Atmos bluray - it's conceivable that since this is a March release, murmurings that this might be DTS' first DTS-X release, and not Atmos

more supplements info and additional details are obviously forthcoming.

This being Ridley Scott, I'd assume a director's cut is a given.

First, aren't Fox usually behind the curve on all new sound formats at all times (when it comes to home video)? I bet this only gets a conventional multi-channel mix on BD.

Second, what ever became of the 4-hour cut of the movie?

Yup. Not the least bit surprised about the sound format chosen.

unless DTS is deliberately hiding the fact that it is DTS-X, but not officially advertising it til they spill the beans on the whole rollout of DTS-X products and such... but I'm seriously doubting it.

I guess we ditched the previous thread on this about a supposed 4 hour cut?

Guess I'll get the big set so I can get the full docs. Unless an extended cut comes out in the future with additional extras.

I'll get it when it's cheap. Also waiting to see if any news of an extended ever does come about now.

Just like Prometheus with the extras, Fox? You son of a bitch.

Though neither is great, I actually prefer the standard edition cover.

It's SMART of them to include more extras with the 3D version to get more people to buy it, even if they don't yet have 3D equipment. (I still think at this point, with 3D sales being below expectations, that they should include 3D on ALL releases, no 2D-only discs, but don't charge an arm and a leg for them either. That'll get more 3D material into everyone's homes.) Haven't seen this but looks like it should be great in 3D if done right.

I have no interest in ever buying 3-D equipment. It's just a way of moving units and getting people interested in the extras to pay more. It sucks, but it works.

The Best Buy exclusive 3D version is $22.99. Not too shabby for a new 3D release.

Amazon has already dropped theirs to the same price. I wonder what the BB exclusive is since the coverart is for the standard 3D release.

Will wait until the inevitable extended cut of this movie. The theatrical is more or less a mess of a movie with good visuals.

EDIT: That exclusive is an additional extra on the special features blu ray disc - for the handful of people interested in getting it.

Re: Exodus: Gods and Kings (March 17, '15)

The Best Buy exclusive is really more like 10 minutes, as you get to see the same footage from 3 different angles (pre-vis, with effects added, pre-vis and effects added compared on the screen at the same time). You can change on the fly. I was hoping for a more detailed breakdown, like in the Game of Thrones features. Not a bad extra, especially if you were already going to purchase the movie anyways.
