Re: Guardians of the Galaxy --> 12/9/14

Do I need the Digital Copy for this to work with Disney Movies Anywhere? I want to get around to getting all my Disney movies added and codes redeemed, I wasn't quite sure what I need to do for that.

Nevermind, found the FAQ about it.

Why don't all of the movies in my Disney Movie Rewards account show in my Collection?

If your eligible Disney Blu-ray or DVD set includes a Digital Copy, you can add it to your Disney Movies Anywhere Collection. If the set does not include a Digital Copy, you will receive Disney Movie Rewards points for the movie, but it will not be added to your Disney Movies Anywhere Collection.

So much for the claim that it'd be too feature packed to accommodate a One Shot.

Looks like the steelbook is still sold out online for shipping and not available for store pickup. It's going to be interesting to see how many copies the stores really received. I did get my email saying it's ready for in store pickup, but won't be able to stop by until after work.

Stopped at Target and got the exclusive 3D this morning, there were plenty up front, both at one of the end caps and in a spinning cardboard display (they were in security cases at the end cap, but not in the display). I didn't check back in electronics, but I'm sure there was more back there.

On the one island by the door I walked in, the top row was all GotG, with only the last lane (out of six or whatever) having the Steelbooks. They were about 5 or 6 deep when I got mine.

When I passed the island again, on the way out 5 minutes later, all the copies were gone.
From what I saw, they had far more for Winter Solider a few months back when that came out, then for this. Most of the copies must have been pre-ordered in advanced.

Maybe it's regional, because the Winter Soldier steelbook was sold out immediately in my area.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy --> 12/9/14

I procrastinated on the preorder, so had to head to the store.

Glad I was there at opening. Only about 5 steelbooks in 2 shelf locations.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy --> 12/9/14

Got to my local store at 9:20am, there was only one guy in line ahead of me. By 9:45-9:50am, folks were showing up and ignoring the people there early.

Luckily, I managed to grab a copy for myself as well as X-Mas gifts for 2 of my best friends. By my count, the store only had about 12 copies total on the floor compared to the endless copies of the standard 2D/3D copies.

Some were on the GOTG display and the rest were split amongst 2 different New Releases displays. Sold out within 8 minutes of the store opening.

The biggest complaint I have with the steelbook is that there is gobs of glue/ stickem holding the j card on. Makes a mess of the steel. Watched it today for the first time. Excellent in 3D and the movie was excellent too.

Got there at opening (10am) and they had about 15 copies. When I left, maybe 5 left.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy --> 12/9/14

Anybody picked up their steelbook pre-orders using store pickup? I'm slightly concerned they would put aside a regular version rather than the steelbook. The store I had to select is quite a drive from where I live and don't want to make the trip for the regular version.

I've had this exact thing happen with another exclusive in the past. But luckily, in that case they still had more copies ont he shelves. Very likely will not be the case this time around since I can't get there for a couple more hours.

You're fine. I picked mine up an hour ago and got the steelbooks with no problems whatsoever.

I can't remember the last time there were this many people out at opening, clamoring for a new release - it harkened back to a time, more than 10 years ago, before Net-Flix and the recession, when people were actually buying DVDs.

I'm stuck at work. I'll have to settle for the 1 disc bluray.

I was actually more interested in the WalMart slipcovers, but all my store had was a couple of StarLords (Probably would've perferred that if he had his mask on) Ended up just getting the standard blu-ray.

That was actually nice to see! My area didn't have any scalpers out this morning, so that was great to see too.

I'm going to run the table and see if Best Buy has any StellBooks left after work. I'm not a packaging whore, but it's really cool.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy --> 12/9/14

Yeah, that steelbook sold out immediately, but everyone who was there when doors opened got one since there were no scalpers at my store either. I could've, if I was an asshole, just grabbed 10 of them, but then all the people around me wouldn't have gotten one, and I can't imagine doing that to people, and for what? I guess for $25 profit on each, according to ebay, but that's still not enough for my dignity.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy --> 12/9/14

It really is pitiful, this scalping. I wish Best Buy would've been a little tougher and set some limitations, like 1 per customer or something. Went to the West Hollywood Best Buy around 3 PM and all were gone. My friend went to Burbank and they told him all copies were bought up in less than 5 minutes. There was a decent amount of shelf space they allotted in West Hollywood, anyway. I took a photo, but don't know how to insert it into here. Tells me they probably had a decent number. Judging by the pigs on eBay selling for scraps, I can only imagine the scene this morning when like three guys walk up to the cash register with all 20 copies or whatever. Assholes.

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy --> 12/9/14

This is the first time I wasn't able to actually get a 'limited edition' of something- I'd considered pre-ordering it from Best Buy's website but thought "what's the point? They're gonna have a ton in the stores." (I got their X-Men exclusive last month, which wasn't that exciting, and Target's ET and Ender's Game steelbooks and Walter Mitty book package which were plentiful for several weeks.) Then having second thoughts, I went to order it and it showed up as "Sold out online". Didn't even try running to the stores today, hearing how fast they sold out. Have the regular package coming from Amazon, so oh well. At least this shows people are still buying media, even when they did the stupid 'early digital' thing with this movie! Hope this'll give 3D the shot in the arm it needs too.
