But bottom line - many are waiting for disc only sets and a more reasonable price.
Paper stuff isn't that expensive either. That kind of stuff is fairly standard to these types of sets. My guess is all that stuff adds maybe $20 tops to the set. Most of that cost is probably the car.

I actually think the limited edition set is priced rather fairly given the swag. I was expecting a list price closer to $400. The lower list price suggests this will hit the sweet spot of $100 pretty soon.

I have no problem paying $180 for this set on day one. I just hope they did justice to the film transfers.

I'm not waiting a year either. You go ahead and report back on the low price you eventually get.

Since the altered (unfortunate darkened) color timing was announced, I've cancelled my preorder until I read the reviews... If it is darkened to oblivion, I'll not be buying the set at all. If it is acceptable, my price point will be $150. I would gladly have paid $250+ if the original, as broadcasted, brighter colors would have been used without the needless 'reimagining'!

I'll try contain my shock that the color-timing has been altered. Why must this new phenomenon exist?

At this point I've waited 14 years for the series to come to DVD. If it had been released in 2004 it would have been a day one purchase. I've now waited long enough that waiting a little longer doesn't bother me.

From what I read, the darker color timing is the original look of the series. It was later brightened when the show hit syndication. So the "reimagining" is the brighter version rather than the BD.

$75. No superfluous stuff. The BDs are all I want or need.

I'd go $20-25 for each season. But i can't pay that high price all at once for the whole set. Well, if it takes a few years more or even never i'll just have to deal with that. And even possibly miss out altogether.

Correct. In fact, there's more on this in the dedicated HD thread to the set. Also, one of our members here has already viewed the set and said that it looked phenomenal.

Re: So what's your buy price point for the Batman TV HD series?

Right now, Amazon lists the DVD set at $135. I may end up going that route unless the BD set hits that price or lower before I pull the trigger. I just don't have the room any more for fancy packaging and am not interested in the cards or car. And as glorious as Julie Newmar's spandex-covered ass might be in HD, standard definition suits my old eyes just fine.

135 bucks... for a DVD set. In 2014? Fuck that. Ain't no DVD set that has a BD counterpart, at the same time, worth that much.

Yeah, given the legal wrangling involved I expected this to originally be a Star Vista or Time-Life direct marketing deal with a fixed retail price of around $300-$350. But then I also expected more substantial extras too to justify that. Then in a year or two the individual seasons would hit retail at about $50 msrp.

So my initial buy price point was anything under $200. I ended up ordering it from WB Shop with a coupon for about $150. Don't recall if that includes tax or not. I was satisfied...but I think there will be a better deal to be had before the end of this year. B&N, WB Shop, DD, DVD Planet- someone will have a good post release price and then a coupon will be available that will knock it down further under $150.

Even in HD releases that don't seem to be that big an improvement over their standard def counterparts, you can usually tell in the sharpness of something like a highlight in a persons eyes. HD is usually, depending on the nature of the original photography, pin point sharp where SD is softer and more diffused.
Just thinking about the costumes on Newmar and Craig, they're made of some kind of glittery, pearlescent fabric. Don't know if that alone is worth the $25+ premium for Bd, but I'm curious to see just how brilliant those sparkle in higher res.

I paid less than that for the BD version through the WBshop and various e-rebate coupons, etc.

The cheapest source now is the German version of the set, dropping all the swag items. Amazon Germany is selling it for something like a little over $100.

Re: So what's your buy price point for the Batman TV HD series?

Eventually, after the stripped down Bd set has been released and already had at least one price drop, I'll sell off the (by then hopefully sold out) limited set and buy the stripped down version. If I can do a 1:1 trade I'll be happy to have it in a more shelf friendly form...and then someone else can enjoy the swag at a reduced price.

Till then it gets tossed in the closet and the digipacks go on the shelf

To paraphrase a contemporary of the Batman, having a thing is not as pleasing as wanting; that being said, I'm only interested in owning the discs, so 125 or so sounds reasonable to me.

As others have said, the same as any other season of TV on blu, $20-25 a season.

But if you wait the boxes and the packaging will be nicked up and have dents and edge and corner wear.

Is this the disc only set ($160+?) since the collectible set with the car is still on the market?

Warner has released this set in several different configurations overseas. If you don't care about the swag and oversized box, the Italian set supposedly comes with an English episode guide for under $70.
