Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14

http://www.alienrevolt.com/ http://www.amazon.com/Alien-Annivers...alien+35th+blu I don't see any specs for it, yet. |
I've bought this movie four times. Unless the color timing is fixed on it and the sequel, even my OCD is holding off on this one.
|
Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
No.I bought the last bluray version and i'm happy with it. No need for this. If I didn't have this movie I probably would buy this, but that isn't the case.

Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
Not sure if that cover art is cool or a busy, cluttered mess.
|
Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
Fuck. I'll probably buy this.
|
Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
Cool artwork. Glad I'm not OCD. I'm good with what I have.
|
Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
Terrible cover.
I'm surprised this got a re-release but not Stargate (1994). |

Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
I'm going to go with cluttered mess for the cover. I'm fine with the box set.
|
Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
It's a cluttered mess and it looks awesome.
Still not re-buying it, though. |
Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
why is the Alien holding a cell phone in its hand?
Or is that after shave cologne? That collage just looks weird to me. |
Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
I'll buy this when I finish the extras on the Anthology boxset.
I'm thinking 2034 or so. |
Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
Seem pointless when the feature packed Anthology set goes on sale quite often.
|
Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
Unless the point is to sell even more copies of the same movie. I still have the original DVD with the mail-in bonus disc. I don't think there are any supplements left about this movie that I need.
Wouldn't be surprised to see a newly filmed cast retrospective, since the guys got together for the new Alien Isolation video game. |

Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
I'll have to buy it if there is anything new on it; but hopefully I'll be patient for a great sale.

Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
i'm marathoning the current set. have Aliens set to go. won't be a need for this new one...

Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
The only reason I'll buy this is if the color timing is changed to the proper, original theatrical one. But I'm laying 1 on 100 odds that this will ever happen. We'll probably just get a repackaging of the existing encode with a couple of bones (= superfluous extras) thrown in to get us salivating on the 40th anniv release. Rinse. Repeat. Walk to bank and cash in.
|
Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
Couldn't they wait 5 years for the 40th anniversary?
|
Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
That will be the next release, in 5 years. In 4k no doubt.

Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
Well, Fox did release a corrected version for The French Connection. I'm still not holding out hope they'll do the same here.

Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
I'm surprised i have not seen one "if the color timing matches the 1979 prints i'll buy it!" comments given how several really hate the color timing on the main lu ray

Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
The cover art is shit. Hey guys, lets make it a circle like the Alien 3 1-sheet.
Should have just used the egg, or the "word of warning" teaser art. |

Look up a few posts, lol. I did see a 35th anniversary screening a few months ago at the Cinerama. It was the theatrical cut, looked perfect to my eyes, but I don't know if it was a new print or not, could've been. And I really couldn't say what the colors looked like compared to the current blu-ray. It's possible this could be a new transfer, but probably unlikely. I dig the cover art though.

Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
Bluray.com shows the Alien Quadrilogy set hitting blu-ray on the same day (October 7). Is this just the Anthology set updated to include the new 35th Anniversary Edition of Alien? Or is there a chance that Fox might have fixed the color timing issues on the first two films and added even more special features?

Pass, waiting until the. 45th Anniversary edition.

Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
Each film is getting re-released with a Digital HD code. The Quad set might just be a repackaging in a standard case and Digital HD codes. Walmart's pre-order listing for Alien:
This "Alien 35th Anniversary Limited-Edition Set" includes both the theatrical version and director's cut on Blu-ray, along with audio commentaries, deleted scenes and more - PLUS - a reprint of the original "Alien" illustrated comic and all-new, collectible art cards as a tribute to the late H.R. Giger, creator of the iconic movie monster that started it all. |
Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
Perfectly happy w/my current copy of this - will be passing on this latest edition.

As grossly tealified as they may be, the transfers for both Alien and Aliens were director approved, and neither one is as controversial as The French Connection (where the movie's DP publicly berated the director for what he did to the movie). There is zero chance that these discs will be any different than the existing Blu-ray transfers. This is just a repackaging and reissue. |

Damn. Well I'm damn not bit buying it again for UV codes, especially when I can just pick them up on eBay or something anyway. I wish I the Quadrilogy had individual cases so that I could keep the second with proper color timing and sell the others.
Anyway, when people have both the BD and Quad DVD of Aliens as an example, would you really ever watch the DVD over the BD for the whole movie just because of the color? Or is it to just have around should you want to compare? I orginally kept my Quad set around because of the color issues. But now reality is setting in and I can't really ever see me watching the whole movie on DVD just for the colors. Now I just need to find somebody willing to give me something for the Quad set. |

Re: Alien: 35th Anniversary Edition -- 10/7/14
Ever since the the color issue with "Thief" was proven to be blown out of proportion because of screencaps, my attitude with Alien is that it looks great on my set up and the issue IMO is silly.
