Re: Godzilla - 9/16/14
I know there's a lot of hate for the 3D one here, but has anyone seen any 3D copies with the Target bonus featurette?
My local Target didn't have any and they didn't know if they existed or not.

I didn't see any 3D copies at my Target. It's possible the extra feature isn't on the 3D disc anyway. And the extra feature is on the main disc, not a separate bonus disc.
At my local Target all the copies with the bonus were in the Electronics section on the new release end cap. All those up front were the regular release without the bonus. Look for the skydivers cover rather than the main cover with the full size Godzilla on the front.

Yup, picked up the 2D version at Target for 25 and change. The 30 minute feature is actually on the BD. No extra disc.

My Target even had separate cards printed out that said "Godzilla, Target Exclusive", but only for 2D.

It wouldn't surprise me if distributors are consciously limiting availability to retailers for release week, taking a page out of Nintendo's marketing playbook. The delay creates an aura of scarcity and a signal to consumers it's a desirable product. I've noticed it more and more with media releases in the past five years.

I'm even more confused by this whole Metalpak thing. There are no less than 4 different Metalpack listings on the Best Buy site, all for varying prices.

Watching some of the features.
I find it funny that Edwards was awkward about destroying a perfectly fine looking van after he stated that it wasn't dirty/damaged enough for where it was supposed to be. And the crew was ready to crush it in a bit. I like how he really started from nothing, ie Monsters, and now that he has this giant studio crew to work with...the options are pretty much infinite for him. SW must be very interesting for him, especially after his G experience.
The Target exclusive feature is neat. Kind of repeats about a minute or two from another feature but it's good. Not worth the price but whatever. The features are kind of standard EPK to a degree but they're fine. Edwards and the crew are the most interesting bits from the features. The cast not so much.

Right now the Toho Kingdom forums are a cesspool of righteous fanboy complaining and arguing over the darkness of the transfer. A whole lot of people who apparently fancy themselves experts on this sort of thing have been posting screenshots comparing the 2D and 3D versions as well as the various trailers, like obsessive JFK conspiracy theorists studying the Zapruder film.
I never saw the film in theatres so I can't compare my Blu-ray experience with that. I can only say that it's indeed a very dark movie (particularly in the third act), but neither my sister or I (we watched it together for the first time) had any trouble telling what was going on. It wasn't like Alien vs. Predator 2 where someone's incompetence clearly fucked something up. It's dark, but it looks fine.
Don't try telling that to the obsessive freaks over at Toho Kingdom, though. Sometimes I don't know why I bother with my fellow hardcore Godzilla fans. They're really some of the biggest fuckwits you'll ever find in any fandom, at least the ones who bother to make their presence known online.

I saw the film five times in theaters, two of which were in IMAX. Yes, the BD transfer is slightly darker than the theatrical presentation but it is not as bad as many people are making it out to be. A good TV set, properly calibrated, will handle the darkness just fine. A piece of crap LCD on factory settings? Maybe not so much.

Originally, Best Buy incorrectly had 'Metalpak' on the title of all four releases (DVD, 2D, 3D and the actual Metalpak)

Finally saw this. It was well shot, directed and has some of the most agressive audio mixes put on bluray. But Jesus Christ is it poorly written. Everybody in the movie talks strictly in convoluted plot points.
Enjoyed it though.
