Yep, this set will make it so I won't be able to count on one hand the number of copies of Ghostbusters I've owned over the years.

Yeah honestly it's bullshit the way Ernie Hudson is treated in regards to these films. Granted he's not as big of a star like the other three are (or were), but he was a main cast member in both films. It's shitty that he's basically treated like a second rate cast member.

"Poor Ernie Hudson" was the phrase one video magazine's article about the evils of panning and scanning started out with.

It's true even to this day though. A lot of promo pictures that get used just show the three minus Ernie Hudson. Even on the official Facebook page for instance they'll post a picture but a lot of times they post ones without him in it. It's not like he was some side character or something, he was just as big of a character in both films. I don't get it really.

The movie poster only has the three as well. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that he is a secondary character in the first film. He's not there from the beginning and overall, he doesn't have nearly the same screen time. Plus, Ernie Hudson was not a marketable person at the time in comparison to the other three. IIRC, they used him much more in promoting the second film.

The irony is, Winston has some of the best lines in the first movie.

^That's because it was written for Eddie Murphy. And if he had played the part, you can bet he wouldn't be getting left out of everything like Ernie Hudson does.

Wait. What? Did I somehow forget that? Or not know it?

I didn't know that.

Just checked it out. Yep. Murphy was supposed to be Winston and he said no. Decided to do Beverly Hills Cop. Damn. Nice decision.

It's funny. For all I know about it actual shooting production and post work. I know so little about the original ideas and script.

Ackroyd had a bold vision for it from what I'm reading. Good thing he was eased off that.

Just watched the 2 movies again yesterday- Winston does seem pretty "tacked-on", they don't even discuss needing to hire another guy until he comes in and gets told "You're hired" right away.

Murphy was committed to Beverly Hills Cop, but he would've been the star. Once he passed, the character was re-written to be their chauffeur of sorts then changed again to a member of the team. Bill Murray was then tagged for the starring role and the movie played out the way it did.

Although Ghostbusters II is pretty much a weaker retread, Winston does have a larger screen presence which is easily the the best part of the sequel. Once (if) they finally get Ghostbusters 3 off the ground, you can bet Ernie Hudson won't have much of a role.

The actual original concept of Ghostbusters was completely off the wall and wild. Aykroyd's original script was so out there, even for 1982 was it was written there's just no way any studio would've signed off on it. For those that don't know, it was supposed to be a starring vehicle for Belushi & Aykroyd and take place in outer space and other dimensions. It was Ramis and Reitman's rewrites that made the film as memorable as it is.

You can justifiably understand why Murray has said no thanks to another movie after all of these years. I've read chunks of Aykroy'd original GB3 script (Ghostbusters: Hellbent), and it was full of technical jargon and gave no depth to the characters. I never got to read the rewrites Ramis assisted with, but some of it turned into Ghostbusters: The Video Game

It's "I've seen shit that will turn you white."

A few words can make all the difference in a good joke.

Amazon has pre-orders up for the Ghostbusters 2-pack Digibook ($18.89) and Ghostbusters II ($13.99). The Gift Set isn't listed yet.

It is now...and it's $104.99 (off a $149.99 MSRP)...screw that. I'll take the $18.89 digibook.

For $104, I want Ernie Hudson to come to my house and watch both movies with me.

For $104, he'd probably do it.

BTW, considering all the extras they're throwing onto the first movie, is it possible the 4K transfer on this new version won't look as good as the bare bones version since the bit rate will probably be lower? Just looking for an excuse to hang onto the bare bones disc.

I wanted the gift set, but not for that ridiculous price. I'll settle for the digibook.

Part 1 is also getting re-released again on 9/16.

They'll both be available separately on that date.

I'm not seeing $104.99 worth of anything for the gift set. That's way overpriced.

Now I've seen shit that will turn me white. Over $100 for the set. Good luck!
