The Shadow (Collector's Edition) - January 21, 2014
Finally up for pre-order via Amazon ($20.95) and dvdempire ($20.99).
It will be released on January 21, 2014.
Rumor has it the film itself will feature the same master found on the Universal BD. It's not terrible but the film would have greatly benefited from a remaster.
Special features are currently unknown.

Wait, so first release just happened in June and we have a double dip 6 months later? That's crazy. Especially on a movie like this.

With the same remaster? WTF is that all about? Hope it's a typo. But it's a rumor right now, right? There's no confirmation it's the same remaster?

Shout Factory just confirmed that this has a brand-new HD transfer from an interpositive print, just completed this week.

I remember when the first Adele BD was released and the PR materials for the new director's cut soon thereafter. It was no surprise.

So what are the differences between the two versions? The theatrical cut runs 1:44:56 and this Director's Cut runs 1:46:57, which you math majors have probably already figured out accounts for barely two minutes of extra footage. And what is that comprised of? A few fleeting boob shots, for the most part, but those who are seeking this out for prurient reasons are going to be mightily disappointed, as nothing much is really ever shown. At a bit past the hour mark, our heroine tells her catatonic sister she needs to take a bath. In the theatrical version, the film then cuts to a shot from the rear showing Adèle in the bathtub. In this version, we see her smoking a cigarette and stripping in front of the mummy. This scene shows absolutely nothing, but may titillate the necrophiliacs out there (and you know who you are). Then we get a few more lingering shots of Adèle in the tub than in the theatrical version, including from the front, though again, nothing much is seen since the water comes up so high. There's also a bit more of her full body on display when she jumps out of the tub in this version, but literally only a moment's worth. Why this wasn't handled through seamless branching on the original release is anyone's guess (can you say "double dipping"?), as it seems that that technology could have easily handled these few additions. (For the intensely curious, I've included two screenshots from this brief added sequence. They're in positions 18 and 19.)

Well, they did announce BOTH versions about the same time. That's the reason why I held off buying the PG-13 version and waited for the DC version. I wasn't going to double dip.

Really? I was under the impression that the director's cut was announced shortly afterward. Then again, I only knew of the two releases after the fact which is why I got the director's cut.

Scream Factory sends out screeners way ahead of time, so when our guy had it - bam, the director's cut was announced and I held back. Yes, shortly, meaning like a week or two later. I don't remember the exact date and all but not long after. Also, we only got a screener for the first version and not the DC version.

I've never seen a catalog titled double-dip so quickly. I'm more inclined to pick it up now but I haven't seen it since the 90s so I don't know how it holds up.

Does this one post under his actual name and position with the studio, or are we just supposed to take it at his word that an anonymous person under a made-up user name has some sort of tenuous connection with the company that will later be revealed as completely fictional?

Guess I'll wait for some kind of official announcement from Shout whether this will be a new transfer or not. Uni's BD looked AWFUL.

According to the wrapping on the copy I got today from Shout, it says "New High-Definition Transfer". I have the Uni version as well, so I can do a comparison later.
Also, it should be noted this comes out on Feb. 25 not Jan. 21 according to Amazon.

I got my review copy of this the other day. I don't know how the Uni disc looked, but this is pretty good. Not much fine detail, image could be sharper, but it looks like HD. Close-ups reveal a much more appreciable level of detail.
Also, not a great movie.
