I just saw the ad. It's season 5B (8 episodes), not the complete season 5. Sony just called it "The Final Season"

Just so no one is confused. Seasons 1-5A are on sale for $11.99

Re: Breaking Bad -- The Complete Series -- 11/26/13

I've already got all the blu-ray seasons as they were released (bought them to support the show when it's future was questionable) but I really want that complete series set - looks awesome. Love the attention to detail - hopefully someone will post that feature length documentary on the net so I can help kill the temptation to buy this thing

Since my S2 BD is signed by Aaron Paul :bananadance: I'll use that as justification to buy this complete set

I was on the fence, but the unboxing convinced me to dive in. Credit to Gilligan for making me laugh with the "coasters" bit!

I like that they were even able to incorporate magnets into the BD packaging

Still watching the series. Almost through season 3. Probably the best show I've ever seen. There has been no disappointing episodes so far. Just awesome.

I would stay out of this thread if you're still watching since I'm sure there'll be spoiler stuff in here.

Unless I'm fully caught up on a show, I don't even like to look at the cast section of the IMDB page, because just seeing the number of episodes next to an actor can be a signal that his character will die (especially if it's a violent show) or otherwise be written out.

I won't be impressed until I can use the rare earth magnets in the set to erase incriminating evidence.

As much as I really want the complete series set of this I can't justify double dipping on the series at this point when I already have the other five sets. I really want that bonus disc with the two hour documentary but at this point I'll be content with just picking up The Final Season. When a price drop happens on this set I'll consider getting it.

I think that's the route I'm taking for now. I can't justify the price for this just based on the 2-hour documentary.

$200 (Complete Box Set) vs $95 if purchased separately. Is the box set really worth $105 more? GREAT show, but that's a lot $$$

the unboxing cemented it for me. plus, selling my previous sets as a lot. Best Buy better not screw up my order like they did with the Man of Steel LE. still waiting to be called for that...

I have to be honest, I love the series and probably would put it in my top five shows ever but to me the documentary aside I really am not overly impressed by the box set. The magnets on the disc holders are pretty cool but I really don't know that the set is worth the extra premium compared to what the rest of the seasons cost.

Re: Breaking Bad -- The Complete Series -- 11/26/13

This set is obviously not for everyone. Sony made this for those who haven't bought each season yet or are willing to spend the extra money for the premium packaging and the bonus content.

It's a matter of person preference and how much money you can afford to spend. If $200+tax is unattractive, then just get each season or buy season 5A and B by themselves and be done with it. If you don't need the set or don't have the space or cash, then don't buy it. No one is pressuring you to get it.

Although I sense some of feeling pressured to get everything that is Breaking Bad.

As OldBoy said, to each their own.

Sony released a complete series set of The Shield shortly after the series ended with a special bonus disc as well and a book I believe. I already bought all the FOX and Sony sets individually and was happy with that.

It is a lot of money, and not worth it in my opinion. While I do think the barrel packaging is a clever gimmick, that is all it is. Most people I know are looking for ways to make their collection take up less space, not incorporate some cheap plastic novelty that is going to take up a good amount of shelf space.

To be honest I'm just not a big fan of complete series sets in general. It's such a double edged sword for fans of any particular show because the options usually are either support a show as it comes out so it stays on the air longer and the studio keeps putting out Blu-ray releases or wait it out and potentially get a better set in the end or the studio sees that the numbers for the sets aren't selling to their expectations and stop releasing them. Then to add extra insult to people who have already bought the other sets and supporting the show and it's releases all along throw in something extra like this bonus disc which they know a good majority of fans will want just as an extra fuck you. At the end of the day I get that it's all business but I'm not a fan of the way it's done.

Re: Breaking Bad -- The Complete Series -- 11/26/13

Not every long running show is going to get a complete series set like this, especially with extra content. Vince said in the video that the bonus disc also includes all the previous retailer exclusive featurettes that have never been released before in addition to the doc.

Fringe, Chuck, House, Friday Night Lights, Gossip Girl complete series sets were just the individual sets packaged together.

24 got a DVD only set with 1 bonus disc, but now with that coming back in May, that set is now irrelevant.

Right and I realize that but even so. The shows that do get complete series releases tend to be shows like this who have very loyal fan bases who the studios know they can probably sucker a good chunk of fans into re-buying a set by throwing something extra in the box set only.

Re: Breaking Bad -- The Complete Series -- 11/26/13

All this talk about price. For those who want the complete set, but are price conscious (like me), your patience will be rewarded. I've never seen a pricey box set not get below 50% of MSRP within 90 days of release. That's usually my trigger point, but even after that, you will see the price go lower and lower, particularly during various one-day/flash sales. Anyone remember Alien Anthology? My only concern would be if it were a limited release, like a SteelBook, but that's not the case here.
