What goodies do they have?

Go back through the thread. I posted a big list back on the first page (post #6). Other people have posted lists too.

Alrighty. I may jump on this 50% off promotion. I have about 800 DVDs and about 200 to 300 Blurays. I have a hard time digesting the fact I'm able to convert them to VUDU and make peanuts by selling off my collection considering how much money I spent on it initially. Sucks that you used to spend 15 to 20 bucks on a DVD years ago and now it's hard to sell them for a couple bucks. Anyone have any advice of where I could offload my dvds and make back some decent money? UGH!

hanshotfirst1138 01-28-14 05:39 PM

I was wondering the same. I think that the sad reality is that the best you came do is donate them to a charity or a library or something, I think the chances of selling them for anything are slim to none. I was thinking eBay, but between fees and shipping, it hardly seems practical. And God knows what I'm going to down with my VHS tapes and CDs, or my old player's guides. This deal is just good, but I just loathe to give money to Walmart.

Through June? Well, I guess I can take my time with some of these...

True, and will probably be the case with our Blu-ray collections in 10 years (but hopefully not).

The only one I'm interested in doing is True Lies. Most of my DVD collection is worthless, collects dust and I'd love to get rid of.

I wish my laptop had a BD drive. Can anyone recommend a decent inexpensive external BD drive solely for D2D use?

I bought a Samsung External Slim BD Writer for around $90. Here's the latest model:

It works really well. Very simple to use. Just plug it into the USB port and it works right out of the box. It's powered through the USB, so you don't need a power cord.

Hell, it's probably true now. 35mm is dead, video stores are dead, print is all but dead, physical media is all but dead, the future is here. I'm not always happy about it, but it certainly isn't going anywhere. I got rid of a whole bunch of my DVDs and got peanuts for them, and was lucky to get that. The times they are a changing, like it or not :(.

I'm actually glad DVDs have no resale value anymore- makes it less likely for someone to break in and steal them :)

Stupid thieves probably think they DO have value.

as long as you can snort coke off of them, they have value.

What, a toilet seat not good enough for you anymore, Mr. Fancypants?

The toilet seat is for hangovers. You do the coke on a glass table, that way you can put the camera under it and have a cool shot. Or you do it on a DVD of Scarface or Boogie Nights. Or Requiem for a Dream. Because that's just so apropos.

Just wanted to say I've converted some of my DVDs/Blus to Vudu with mostly positive results.

The only title I've noticed that is vastly inferior to the Blu transfer is Mean Girls which looks more like a noisy upconverted DVD at best. Tons of compression all over that one so hopefully Vudu can get a new master from Paramount eventually.

Sometimes if you complain about specific transfers over on VUDU's forums, they'll respond and attempt to get a better source.

Their encode of Drive is in 1.78 instead of 2.35 like it's supposed to be.
