I have some vacation time before the end of August. I'll go through the remainder of the DVDs I own and see if anything else is eligible for the promotion. |
Re: VUDU - 50% Off Disc-to-Digital Conversion ($1 BD & $2.50 DVD)
Thanks for the hd dvd in BD case suggestion. Worked for me. Makes an hd dvd $2 which is about the equivalent of the regular DVD via the promotion. Planning to do as many of my hds as possible.

Re: VUDU - 50% Off Disc-to-Digital Conversion ($1 BD & $2.50 DVD)
Does anyone think this promotion will be extended? I wrote in to someone at Vudu and he told me that his best guess would be "yes" but that no one knew yet. I really hope that it does and they don't wait to announce it until the last couple of days of the month.
I've still got a 100 or so dvds to convert and would like to get some additional blu-rays off of my shelves and it would be nice not to spend all of that money this month. |
Re: VUDU - 50% Off Disc-to-Digital Conversion ($1 BD & $2.50 DVD)
With all the errors, I hope extend the promo. I'm worried that after 8/31, they'll re-launch it with all the errors fixed, but no more 50% off.

Anyway, I was able to get almost 100 movies before I had the problems. |
Re: VUDU - 50% Off Disc-to-Digital Conversion ($1 BD & $2.50 DVD)
With all of the discs I gave to Zia, they took about 80% of them leaving me with $165 in store credit (covering about 45% of the cost of what I've done on Vudu)... which I used to pick up some of the Pixar 3D discs that I didn't own allowing me to now trade-in my 2D equivalents.
The cycle continues. |

I have contacted management and they took the titles I had errors with an gave me their assurance that they were working on a fix and I'd be one of the first people notified when they got it done. Not a single disc that I ever reported works...so, really, they've managed to fix nothing...assuming they're even trying very hard. My local Wal-Mart manager felt so bad because he thought I was getting hosed by having to pay double at his store that he told me he'd honor the $2.50 price until the end of this month. That's why I'm holding onto my discs with errors, to try them all at least one last time before bringing them in at the end of the month. The have the incorrect AR on many movies, including two that I've "upgraded" and now can only view on Vudu in 1:33.1. And as much as I hate using CinemaNow, both movies playing in their original AR there, so I don't buy their answer that it's a difficult process to fix. The problems were first mentioned in January and I believe on Forrest Gump has been fixed and probably only because it's such a popular film. If the cancel their promotion, it certainly won't be because they're ready to go in my opinion. I'll probably save several (5) stacks of 10 dvds until the end of the month and only do them this month, rather than next month, if they announce the promotion won't be extended. |

Anyway, I was able to get almost 100 movies before I had the problems. Still, it's frustrating to get the errors on stuff that is on the download list. Particularly As Good As It Gets. I'm not buying the Twilight Time BD, but I'll certainly take a HDX version for $2.50. |
Re: VUDU - 50% Off Disc-to-Digital Conversion ($1 BD & $2.50 DVD)
Just wanted to remind everyone there's only 1-week left in the 50% Off sale. It expires on August 31, 2013.

Re: VUDU - 50% Off Disc-to-Digital Conversion ($1 BD & $2.50 DVD)
I have one more batch of titles that I hope convert. If they actually fix the disc error issues and extend the 50% off deal, then I'll have about 3-4 more batches.

Re: VUDU - 50% Off Disc-to-Digital Conversion ($1 BD & $2.50 DVD)
Loathe as I am to support much of anything connected to Walmart, I did recently find out that along with Netflix, Flixster's Ultraviolet service and VUDU are among the few things that my otherwise worthless wifi service where I work doesn't block with stupid OpenDNS, so I have at least come around to it a little tiny bit. Apparently 40 hours and half of my soul aren't enough to let me watch YouTube videos or access websites with entertainment information on my lunch break!

Theoretically, it could be upgraded in the future. There have been some instances where movies have been improved or fixed. But there's also many reports of movies that are obviously screwed up and haven't been fixed for months (see the Incorrect Aspect Ratio thread). People have been requesting special features for years. And it hasn't happened yet. So I'm not holding my breath.

Re: VUDU - 50% Off Disc-to-Digital Conversion ($1 BD & $2.50 DVD)
Looks like Vudu has extended the 50% Off promo until January 31, 2014. They just updated the expiration date on their site:
This Promotion is available from May 29, 2013 through January 31, 2014 (the "Promotion Period"). If you create a VUDU account during the Promotion Period or you have an existing account as of the start of the Promotion Period, VUDU will issue you a two dollar ($2.00 USD) credit, which will be automatically applied; however, the credit is only good towards your next conversion of a DVD or Blu-ray disc (each a "disc") via VUDU's In-Home Disc to Digital service. You are limited to one two-dollar ($2.00 USD) credit per user account during the Promotion Period. This credit will expire automatically ninety (90) days from the date on which VUDU issued the credit to you. Additionally, during the Promotion Period, if you convert ten (10) or more discs via VUDU's In-home Disc to Digital service in a single transaction (that is, you add ten (10) or more discs to your cart and check-out), you will receive a fifty percent (50%) discount off the pre-tax subtotal conversion fees for that transaction. These promotional discounts (collectively, the "Promotion") may not be combined with other promotions or offers from VUDU or Walmart or its affiliates. VUDU may declare this Promotion to be void where prohibited or restricted by applicable law. Eligibility for this Promotion, conversion of DVDs or Blu-ray discs, and use of the In-Home Disc to Digital service are subject to VUDU's Terms of Service. This Promotion expires automatically by its own terms by Midnight PST on the last day of the Promotion Period. http://www.vudu.com/in_home_disc_to_digital.html |
Re: VUDU - 50% Off Disc-to-Digital Conversion ($1 BD & $2.50 DVD)
That's great to hear. Hopefully they'll fix some of the numerous errors before the end date.
FYI, Step Brothers DVD was only available in SD. They've now changed it to HD. |
Re: VUDU - 50% Off Disc-to-Digital Conversion ($1 BD & $2.50 DVD)
Awesome. I have 13 discs left that I need to convert that aren't recognized by the software. Hopefully those issues will be resolved by 2014!

Re: VUDU - 50% Off Disc-to-Digital Conversion ($1 BD & $2.50 DVD)
Well, I spent a whole lotta money this month just in case that didn't happen and it sure would have been nice to spread it out.
This is only great if they actually do something though to fix their problems. I don't recall one disc that even read improperly being fixed, even though a manager there e-mailed me and asked me to list the titles and that he'd make sure they were going to be in the batch of fixes that they got to first. Never happened...not even close. With these kind of error rates continuing, I'd expect this promo to get extended again. Until they really do something, they can let this go from "testing" to mainstream. I simply doesn't work well enough. Finally, unless they add more titles to d2d, I'm pretty much out anyway. I might think of a few films where I can get the dvd really cheap, but I'm almost pretty burnt out from having done this non-stop for like 3 months. Happy for the people who still have more to do. Unrelated and I know Amazon isn't as good as HDX, but there has to be a middle ground on prices. Vudu really charges an awful lot to buy most of their movies, including ones that probably don't have that many people even interested in them at all. They rarely drop prices and I can't see their prices staying this high and getting people to pay the say or more for no physical copy, when you actually more with the physical copy and it costs the studio more to produce it. |

I got a few DVD freebies and the program was a pain in the ass. |

Just wanted to remind everyone that the 50% Off promo will expire on January 31st.
Maybe they'll extend it again. |

A Vudu rep posted on their forum that the promo will be extended. New date should be announced soon.

I read somewhere about a trick/loophole where DVD is recognized as a Blu-Ray to get the $2 pricing for HDX, does anyone know how to do that?
|
Re: VUDU - 50% Off Disc-to-Digital Conversion ($1 BD & $2.50 DVD)
/\ I've only seen that with Kiss, Kiss Bang Bang. HDX was the only option, and it charged $2.
