Yeah, 1:50 replica of the Vengeance would be between ninety and one hundred feet long.

Still no confirmation whether the or not the German BD release has the shifting aspect ratios?

That's what I'm wondering as well.

EDIT: Well dammit, someone posted this in the blu-ray.com forum.

No other releases of this film include this.

As such, I was hoping I could import the German edition. But does anyone know if it will work on my US PS3? I never know with region coding and all. I've only ever gotten one German release (Erik the Viking) and it worked.
The press release said that the 3D would be constant 1.78:1 throughout so while the IMAX footage would give us expanded shots the rest would be cropped.

Region coding wise it will be fine as Paramount don't region lock titles they have rights too worldwide.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness Preorder Up (Fall 2013)

That would be terribly annoying if the whole film were at 1.78:1 for 3D, as that is the edition I ordered. Then again, I may watch the 3D disc once just to see if the ratios change and probably never again.

I have a bit of a hard time believing that Abrams would allow a transfer that completely ruins the composition. If the image is constant, I wonder if he had any input on it.

Agreed. Paramount have fouled this up about as badly as they could have, I think I'll Redbox it and call it a day. This should've been a no-brainier. Total clusterfuck. Hopefully a double-dip down the road that does it properly, but doubtful.

The Target exclusive isn't a digibook. It has an exclusive bonus disc and different art-work on the packaging.

Exactly. Could you imagine convincing your SO to keep something that huge in your house?

Based on the typical covers Paramount has put on their discs in the past, it looks like that. I'm guessing the exclusive disc is the DVD.

Unless Target includes the exclusive disc on a separate cardboard sleeve. In which case, it might still be a BD.

Cool, I guess I'll go that route since the Germany release is now dead to me.

It would be nice if the third disc of the Target version included all of the stuff that was missing, but it's not looking real likely.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness Preorder Up (Fall 2013)

Someone on Blu-Ray.com got an email from Paramount Germany regarding the aspect ratio of their release:

This is not the right information.

DVD and BluRay are identical in USA and Germany.

Speak of the devil, Bill Hunt was on a podcast talking about this very topic. I haven't listed to it though, I"m still getting through my 56 remaining episodes of Kermode and Mayo that I've neglected. If I finished them within the month, it'll be a miracle.

Interesting stuff. The only way I'd consider a double dip is if it were the IMAX version of the movie. I honestly don't give a rats ass about the special features.
