Very much so. Horror and action. The two genres where some lost frames can make a huge ass difference.

Wasn't crazy about the movie myself. Nice lookin' and sounding disc, but the extras are kind of a letdown.

I don't think it's been mentioned here, so Target is going to have an exclusive steelbook (19.99) and Best Buy's gonna have an exclusive bonus disc (22.99, or 17.99 with U&S)

Is that bonus disc a DVD or BD?

That's true, though it's on a film by film basis.

For example, while not a great movie, The Mangler has some pretty awesome splatter in three set pieces. Robert Englunds fate is truly spectacular in the uncut version. Meanwhile the R version of the three scenes are lacking with the more gruesome splatter omitted, and it's a shame only the R version was released on dvd. This is one film where those splatter moments really were the best thing about the film leaving a 'holy shit!' reaction that is missing from the R version.

However, Evil Dead I doubt will be that much more 'wow!' in unrated form, unless some major additional gore/ death scenes are added that are otherwise not hinted at in the theatrical cut. Since what is shown in the R version of the film is gruesome enough, that adding a few frames to the scenes won't make a huge difference in my opinion.

No word on that yet, I've been wondering that myself.

It'd have to be a packed DVD for me to get it. Kind of sad this BD lacks more or substantial features.

it's only 25 minutes long, it's a Bruce Campbell interview & a Special FX feature.

And my interest went away now. Regular BD. MAYBE SB for me.

I personally would rather have the bonus disc than a steelbook, hopefully it ends up being a blu-ray instead of a DVD....

I went to Best Buy when they opened to get the exclusive, I saw about a dozen of them, and they had more of the non-exclusive than they had of the exclusive. Sadly, the bonus disc is a DVD

Does it include the UV code? I noticed none of the exclusive versions here had a slipcover where the normal version does. I couldn't decide between BB with bonus or Target Steelbook this morning, maybe I'll redbox it first.

Got the steelbook from Target. First Target I went to didn't have any, and only about 5 copies of the regular blu. Went to another Target up the street and they had 5 steels and 5 regulars. Steelbook on this seems limited.

Bought the version with the bonus disc from best buy, oddly both were 22.99, and I had a 5 dollar coupon. I'll be watching it tonight.

I'm thinking that as well. Who knows, we could be wrong and stores aren't putting many out on the floor.

Comparing the last two Target Exclusive Steelbooks, there was definitely a bigger market for Django Unchained than there is for this film.

I went to my local store around Noon and there were about 7-8 copies on the shelf. Didn't help that they were mixed in with the regular copies of the film.

After some thought, I'm gonna pass on this release. I know a double dip is imminent, and I didn't love the movie so much that I can't wait.

Re: Evil Dead (2013) -- 7/16/13

Picked mine the steelbook at Target this morning. At first I couldn't find it anywhere, but looking closer at the rack of regular blues, I noticed that the back 5 had a different top. So I reached in and snagged one of those five and it was indeed a steelbook. I'm wondering if thats the reason some people aren't finding it in stock at their local Target. It may actually be there, it just might be idiotically displayed. I didn't expect to have to do a scavenger hunt this morning for something advertised in their weekly flyer.

Re: Evil Dead (2013) -- 7/16/13

Just got around to opening my steelbook the other day. This is one of the few films I'm actually willing to pay full price for, because of the infinite replay value and slick steelbook design.

A bit disappointed that there wasn't too much divulged about the special effects in the bonus features. Would've been nice to learn more about how they did the gore for the film.

Bear with me here .. I just posted a review for this disc too. Still getting my Blu-ray review legs .. Blogger sucks for formatting when you have to work within certain constraints.

Yeah. That's pretty boring, xage. Seems like this ED wasn't worth collecting the different editions.

I never noticed before until I got the bluray, but her gross hand is tucked under her right armpit. Don't know how I missed that.
