Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
From blu-ray.com:
<img src=http://images3.static-bluray.com/movies/covers/66809_large.jpg alt=tcm This Spring, Lionsgate Films is bringing Texas Chainsaw 3D to Blu-ray. The pulse-pounding horror film stars Alexandra Daddario, Tania Raymonde, Scott Eastwood and Dan Yeager, and continues the story of the homicidal Sawyer family, picking up where Tobe Hooper's 1974 horror classic left off. Texas Chainsaw 3D arrives on Blu-ray on April 30th. Synopsis: In Newt, Texas, people have been going missing without a trace for decades. Years later and hundreds of miles away from the original massacre, a young girl named Heather (Daddario) discovers that she has inherited a sprawling Texas estate from an unknown grandmother. To claim her estate, Heather goes on a road trip with her friends to Newt, but soon learns that wealth comes at a price when she discovers the horror that waits in the cellar of her new mansion. Texas Chainsaw 3D also stars Tremaine 'Trey Songz' Neverson (Grammy-nominated R&B star), Shaun Sipos (Final Destination 2), Keram Malicki-Sanchez (American History X), James MacDonald (Phone Booth), Thom Barry (Cold Case), Paul Rae (True Grit), Richard Riehle (Office Space) and four cast members from previous installments of the franchise: original Leatherface Gunnar Hansen, Marilyn Burns, John Dugan and Bill Moseley. The Blu-ray edition features 3D and 2D presentations of the film, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track, an UltraViolet digital copy and a variety of extras: Two Audio Commentaries: The first with producer Carl Mazzocone and filmmaker Tobe Hooper, the second with Chainsaw Alumni Bill Moseley, Gunnar Hansen, Marilyn Burns and John Dugan Texas Chainsaw Legacy: A look back at the history and 40-year legacy of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series with Hooper Resurrecting the Saw: A look at the development of Texas Chainsaw with director John Luessenhop, producer Carl Mazzocone and writers Adam Marcus, Debra Sullivan, Kirsten Elms and Stephen Susco The Old Homestead: A detailed look at the re-creation of the shooting location from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre with production designer William A. Elliott and cast members (and Chainsaw series alumni) Moseley, Hansen, Burns and Dugan Casting Terror: Interviews with the cast, including Alexandra Daddario, Trey Songz, Tania Reynolds, Keram Malicki-Sanchez, Kyle Eastwood, Sean Sipos and others Leatherface 2013: An interview with Leatherface actor Dan Yeager on his interpretation of this legendary role, along with a look at the creation of Leatherface's costume, mask and signature chainsaw Lights, Camera, Mayhem: A look at the film's 3D photography with DP Anastas Michos, along with a look at the creation of several sequences from the film It's in the Meat: A detailed look at the film's grisly special make-up effects with make-up effects supervisor Robert Kurtzman, and make-up artists Alex Diaz and Mike McCarty On-Set Short Subjects: Five Minute Massacres Burning Down The House Trapped in the Van Carnival Time Leatherface In Action Hot Times In Louisiana Bloody Good Times ***************************************************** This movie was like a terrible '90s horror film... and I kinda loved it for that reason. It's certainly not the low point of the Chainsaw series. Bad horror film aficionados may agree with me here. What's up with the classic cast commentary? rotfl |
Re: Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
I'll get it.
|
Re: Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
Hear nothing but mediocre to terrible things, but upon reviewing my horror collection, I have a bunch of other junk that I love, so why not?
classic cast commentary sounds like it could be fun if nothing else |
Re: Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
I'm eager to see it but based on the reviews of the movie it won't be a release week pick-up for me like the previous installment was.
|
Re: Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
i'm anxious to see this just because of the shit i've heard about it thus far. that commentary might be worth a cheap pick-up down the road if nothing else.
|
Re: Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
no unrated cut = no sale.

I wonder why the hell they are not releasing it unrated as I heard that an unrated cut exists? It's not like people are going to rush out and double dip on this one six months from now.

Re: Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
I didn't like the film at all, but I own every other film in the series.
Maybe if I find this one at a low enough price :) |
Re: Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
no insert, no sale!
|
Re: Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
I haven't seen the film yet. But for those asking about an unrated version. It appears Lionsgate is screwing fans over by making the unrated version an itunes download exclusive at the moment, unless further specs are released about the blu-ray release.

Re: Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
Well, that's fucking lame.
I had a nice talk with Dan Yeager over the weekend at Monsterpalooza (he's a client of my buddy) and he told me about a lot of footage that was cut from the film. He said he wishes they'd do a producer's cut of the film. |

Should be this because I don't think any of this could actually make this movie good.
Alexandra Daddario showing her tits would've made the movie good. To quote my friend, it would've made an F film turn into an A. |

Since it wasn't well received, I'll just hold off till the price drops a lot. |

Both. We didn't get too into details, but he said there was a scene with Leatherface carrying his grandmother's corpse downstairs to his lair, more gore with the guy getting sawed in half, A LOT more graphic footage of the guy who gets his face cut off. He sounded disappointed they cut it down so much.

Re: Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
He didn't really say; maybe he didn't even know.
Almost forgot... he also said there was a cut scene that showed Moseley making phone calls to all the other family members who - in the TC - seem to appear out of thin air as we segue out of the original film's ending. He also mentioned that a cut shot from the kitchen showed the truck driver at the end of the first film strung up on a meat hook. Basically, it sounds like a much better film was shot, but edited down to shit. |
Re: Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
According to Amazon, this comes out May 14th.

Amazing how many times this happens. Why shoot all of these scenes in the first place?
so who's the finger pointing directed at? the producers? the studio? the MPAA for sure... nowadays 'filmmaking by committee' is the standard, yet with so many cooks in the kitchen shit like this tends to happen. |

Re: Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
I scanned through the unrated cut yesterday; it is literally extra frames of footage. In fact, there's so little added in that the runtime is identical to the theatrical cut.

Re: Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
More or less, yes. But I do find it incredibly lame that they don't provide the unrated cut to anyone that redeems the digital copy. How hard would it have been to make that available to buyers?

Re: Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
This is one of those films that I know is bad, but all the backlash it's been receiving kind of makes me like it more. This isn't a TCM 4 situation - this movie is actually kinda fun if you accept how stupid it is. You may be pleasantly surprised, even more so if you like bad '90s horror.

And this new one is written by Adam Marcus who wrote and directed the crazy Jason Goes To Hell, which I enjoy for being so outrageous despite not making a lick of sense in continuity with the series. I can only hope the film delivers 'that' kind of entertainment value, since I know it won't offer any scares or anything like that. But I'm still a bit skeptical, and might like it better if I had no idea what kind of film it was and then be surprised when it goes in a direction I wasn't expecting like Jason Goes To Hell did and then go along for the ride. I do own all the other Chainsaw flicks as I enjoy them, so I guess completing the series would be cool, but if the film really sucks and I don't find any entertainment value in it, then I'd hate to own it. So it's still up in the air what I'll do. A rental is for certain, but I know that will lack the extras which sound pretty cool. |
Re: Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
So, even the "unrated" cut presented here doesn't contain the stuff that Dan Yeager referred to in the interview?
|
Re: Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
Not really. From what I saw... SPOILERS ahead, not that it matters much:
There are some extra hammer whacks when the first guy gets it. There's a good amount more gore when another guy is sawed in half. I only scanned through it, but no actual scenes have been added back in, only additional frames of gore. And horror fans know that even a few frames can make a difference in impact. I'm hoping to see the unrated cut surface on BD in another country, maybe. |

Thanks KC. I know this movie sucks (from all the feedback) but being a TCM completist I'll pick this up, the list of extras looks pretty stellar.
I'll just wait for a really cheap price on it. |

I'm sure all the interested parties have probably seen this review of the 3D BD, but just in case, here it is anyway.

Re: Texas Chainsaw 3D -- 4/30/13
I get the feeling this will probably not be very good judging from the reviews it got but for some reason I'm pretty curious about it. I might blind buy it or at least give it a rental.

Did Wal-Mart get some kind of exclusive cover? The one I got there is slightly different from the retail version:
