Original but no sequel(s) on Blu-ray?

Whats the motivation to buy an original movie but with no sequels on Blu-ray? I bought Childs Play but have little reason to watch it until the rest of them come out on Blu-ray.

Meh. I'll take what I can get I guess. I'd prefer to have sequels such as Ghostbusters II and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey on Blu-ray and it seems like it'd make more sense to put them out as two packs or whatever but whatever works.

Different studios own different films.

Plus, in many circumstances, the original film is what people care about and not the sequels.

They released Superman 3 and 4 and both sucked.

While I don't have a problem buying just the first film, it seems to me they would sell more by releasing the sequel(s) at the same time as the original, so they are on the new release shelf right next to each other.

Bad Boys II and Charlies Angels Full Throttle come to mind. Surprising since they are Sony releases.

In a boxset. You can't buy these individually (in America at least).

Jaws 2, 3 and The Revenge are not on Blu-ray... not that it's a bad thing.

Goes into the different studios category. Paramount owns the rights to the original. MGM (or is it Fox?) owns the sequels.

The Exorcist really needs the excellent III and sorta needs II.
The Amityville Horror could use part II and a Blu-ray 3D version of part III.

Re: Original but no sequel(s) on Blu-ray?

In many cases the original is much better than the sequels, so there isn't as much demand for them.

I think ANOTHER STAKEOUT is on Blu-ray, but the original STAKEOUT is not.

Disney licensed out Another Stakeout to Mill Creek, and kept the original. Why they haven't released Stakeout, but find Heavyweights worthy of a Blu-ray release, I don't understand...

Yeah, it is strange especially since 2012 is the 15th Anniversary (since Disney is so fond slapping those labels on their catalog releases).

Carrie but no Carrie 2... then again, not a huge loss.

As a Godzilla fan, there is MUCH work to be done with that series.

There's the original by Criterion (includes both cuts).

Destroy All Monsters was released but quickly went OOP

Megalon was planned but fell into rights hell with DAM.

Biollante is releasing today.

Zilla (Godzilla 1998) is also available.

I think that's it?

Re: Original but no sequel(s) on Blu-ray?

Yea, that's it. I'm hoping there's renewed interest once we get closer to the new film in 2014.

And Zilla never counts toward the canon. Ever.
