Nice to see it get top marks (and not repeat the same VQ mistakes of TDK) but since this was my least liked film in the trilogy, I have no problem waiting for the Ultimate Trilogy set next year. Hopefully they'll remaster TDK for that set.
If the same master is used, LPCM, Dolby True HD, and DTS-HD Master Audio all sound the same. |

Sounds great and love the DTS finally. I believe BB and TDK had TrueHD which is good, but I think DTS sound is more powerful and robust on my system.

This should have 7.1

I'm planning on getting the Best Buy version with exclusive features. What's been the deal in the past with big releases like this? Do they usually sell out the first day in the store? Best to pre-order for store pickup?

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight steelbooks are $9.99 each this week at Best Buy. If you buy one, the ad says you get a $5 coupon for Dark Knight Rises. However, for each one you buy you get a $5 giftcard. Essentially $4.99 per steelbook. I picked them up as I'm planning to complete the steelbook set with Dark Knight Rises.

Dolby has a volume offset rqmt. You either need to boost Dolby by a few dB, or lower DTS by a few. With the volume normalized, you won't be able to perceive any difference.
There are exceptions of course. For instance, the DTS-HD MA track of the Walmart exclusive BD of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has a dialnorm setting of -27 dBFS. And the Dolby True HD track of Mission: impossible - Ghost Protocol has a dialnorm setting of -31 dBFS. Then there are rarities like the DTS-HD MA track of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and the Dolby True HD track of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull which both have a dialnorm value of -23 dBFS, for an overall volume reduction of 8 dB. As BuckNaked2k stated, adjust the volume accordingly and there will be no perceivable difference. |

I'm crying right now:
This is funnier if you've already seen the flick. If not, then don't watch it: <iframe src="http://www.collegehumor.com/e/6849597" width="600" height="338" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen allowFullScreen></iframe><div style="padding:5px 0; text-align:center; width:600px;"><p><a href="http://www.collegehumor.com/videos/most-viewed/this-year">CollegeHumor's Favorite Funny Videos</a></p></div> |

DTS-HD Master Audio = Lossless. Dolby TrueHD = Lossless. It is literally impossible for one lossless track to be "better" than another lossless copy of the same soundtrack. Both are bit-for-bit identical copies of the original studio master. |
Re: The Dark Knight Rises - Blu-ray + DVD + UV Digital Copy (Dec 07, 2012)
With all that said, Dark Knight Rises had a pretty crappy soundtrack when I saw it in the theater. The music was way too loud and drowned out a lot of the dialogue.

Wouldn't it just make sense to pre-order and reserve a copy then?

At home however, problem solved...though I still don't like how overbearing the Inception score is in the film's mix regardless of format. |

Don't confuse volume for quality. They are not the same thing. As others have explained, DTS tracks are generally set for a louder default volume than Dolby tracks. If you volume match, they are equivalent in quality.

If you want a copy that will be instore. Just go on the website the morning(well before store open) of the release and order for instore pickup. I did that for Spiderman as they wouldn't allow the pre-orders to be picked up instore either.

That won't work for this particular release. Camping out is only way unfortunately.
