My review was pretty rough on the movie, but I do love me some Batman. As luck would have it, this streets six days after my birthday. Guess I know what I'll be treating myself to this year! If a trilogy box set had enticing bonus content and the price was right, I might bite. Otherwise, I think I'll be content with just the standalone release.

Not sure I understand the complaints about the UV Digital Copy. I've got a UV account, shared with my friends. It's a handy way to build a digital library collectively. Yes, my preference is disc (Blu where possible), but that's why I'm buying the Blu-ray in the first place and not just buying a digital version. It's nice to have, and it's particularly nice now that they're not wasting an entire disc for just the Digital Copies. With UV, you just enter a code and voila! You're in business. I wish they'd do like Paramount did with Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol; they offered both the UV Digital Copy and a straight DC download (in full HD, iTunes Extra format, no less!).

Never understood some releases include a disc for the digital copy anyway, when some just give you a code to use for Itunes without any need for a disc.

Isn't there a likely possibility this will get a Matrix-style box set in 2013? I'll get the standard release, but am expecting something a bit more monumental down the road. It's why I didn't go for the current steel-book releases...

I dunno. BB is one BD, TDK has 2 (though it really wasn't that amazing on that 2nd BD) w/ a DC and TDKR is unknown on the BD count.

Very nice. I'm usually not one for gimmick packaging like this but if this isn't too expensive and is real (I assume it is) I might go for it.

i was doing that as well. i ended up giving in when i got Batman Begins and The Dark Knight bestbuy steelbooks for 4.99 each. so if they release a box set, i'm all over it but i'm hoping they release a The Dark Knight Rises steelbook as well. i'll do both since i got the other two for pretty much pocket change.

If this looks remotely high quality in person, it will be mine.

I just assumed the companies using the disc assume the customer is a complete moron and couldn't figure out where to input the code. The disc boots up itunes and takes you right to the code entry screen.

If you look at some of the fine print on the collectible Blu-ray case image I posted, it says there's space for 2 discs.

It's just like the BatPod collectible for the previous film.

I'm not about talking about just TDKR. I'm talking about a set of all 3.

But being uncertain about how many discs "RISES" itself would be. It will be two according to the set above, so unless there's a special bonus disc for all three films (like how Best Buy will offer "The Dark Knight Reborn" documentary), chances are that whatever ends up in a box set will be the same as an individual release where this film itself is concerned.

I just saw this movie in IMAX last night. Having only watched DK on DVD, I was wondering how they went about with the shifting aspect ratios? The effect was rather spectacular on a square-ish screen, but I'm wondering how it looks on a 16:9 TV.

I'm sure TDKR on Blu will look spectacular; just take a gander at the IMAX scenes on TDK, which are reference quality to what a Blu Disc can look like.

I just read up on the different DK releases. I was mostly wondering about the logistics of going from 2.40:1 to 1.44:1 on a 16:9 TV and how the effect would certainly be lost by doing so. However, I saw that the IMAX scenes were framed at 1.78:1 for the Blu-Ray, and while the DVD includes the full 1.44:1 sequences as a bonus feature, the BD does not.

I believe the IMAX scenes take up your whole screen. I'll have to check it out. When it hits 35mm it's back to standard black bars.

That's exactly what it did at the theater!

It switches between 1.78:1 and 2.40:1, vs. the IMAX screenings that switched between 1.44:1 and 2.40:1. Not identical, but it's the best that can be done to fit contemporary TVs and still reach for the same impact.

Worked just fine (and looked great) for THE DARK KNIGHT Blu-ray...was kind of ticked when the MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL Blu-ray decided to keep the same ratio throughout.

I'm just hoping that this time around, they'll include the full 1.44 shots as a bonus feature for the sake of completism (although the sheer volume of them makes me a bit skeptical it will happen). Some of these shots were just amazing.

some of the chosen IMAX shot scenes were odd - like the brief scene where Bruce awaken's in bed and goes down the stairs.

That's the exact same scene I used to make the same point when I was discussing the film with my friend. Since Nolan has expressed the desire to film a whole movie in IMAX and found it wasn't really feasible due to the noise made by the cameras, I guess he probably tried to have most (if not all, I didn't pay enough attention) of the dialogue-less scenes and establishing shots be filmed in IMAX.

he should have shot the non-IMAX scenes in standard 70mm (as he had done for 'Inception')

I've noted this elsewhere but there are new digital IMAX cameras that are more light weight and less noisey

those are what he used on TDKR. Unless they made them much smaller and much quieter than the ones he worked on.
