The Raid (August 14th, 2012)

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release THE RAID: REDEMPTION on Blu-ray and DVD on AUGUST 14th. The Gareth Evans-directed actionfest stars Iko Uwais, Ananda George, Ray Sahetapy, Donny Alamsyah and Pierre Gruno.

Deep in the heart of Jakarta's slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world's most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the rundown apartment block has been considered untouchable. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, they find themselves stranded on the 6th floor with no way out. The unit must fight their way through the city's worst criminals to survive their mission.

The Blu-ray will feature 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack.

Supplements will include:
- Commentary with writer/director Gareth Evans
- Video blogs
- 5 Behind-the-scenes featurettes
- An Evening with Gareth Evans
- Mike Shinoda, Joe Trapanese conversation
- In Conversation with Gareth Evans and Mike Shinoda
- Claycat's The Raid, and The Raid TV show ad (circa 1994)
- An Ultraviolet Digital Copy.

Very awesome that Claycat's The raid is in there. It's a fun little piece. Also yay for a commentary. i guess we won't get the original music track for the film? i honestly don't think it could be better than what we got, cuz it's badass, but I wanted it merely out of curiosity.

I've no idea wtf The raid tv show ad (circa 1994) is.

I didn't catch this in theaters, but I want to see it. Don't think I'll blind buy, but a definite on demand viewing is in order.

as per review:
"Note that listeners may choose to view the movie with either the film's original music or music by Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda."

I am trying to compare the UK blu to US release to see what is different.

"Director's commentary (exclusive to UK)"
Curious if the director commentary really is UK exclusive and he uses brit slang in that but not the US release or something.

seems like US only has uncut version, UK has edited and uncut.

I think both have english dubbed and english subtitle/orig Indonesian lang versions.

Blahblahblah, really looking forward to this cakes.

Old news. That was posted in the movie forum for the film..but yes...it's still cool and was needed here too.

I'm really wondering wtf that sounds like. It can't be as good as what we got.

Re: The Raid (August 14th, 2012)

It's possible that Evans recorded 2 separate commentaries. The thing that is confusing to me is the whole uncut and edited deal. I was under the impression that the Indonesian version is the same as the u.s. and u.k. versions with a different score. What exactly is edited from the U.K version?

I'm thinking there is probably no difference between the U.S. and U.K versions besides possibly the audio commentary. And even that might not be different.

Re: The Raid (August 14th, 2012)

I saw this in theaters and absolutely loved it. One of the better action flicks I've seen in a while. I can't wait to pick up the Blu-ray, but won't be getting it until the price drops a little bit. If there are any differences between the US and UK Blu-rays, (which I seriously doubt there will be) then I'll get whichever is the better disc between the two.

To anybody who loves action films and appreciate some incredible stunt work, then you need to see this!

I read on the imdb.com forums for the film, that at least two violent scenes/moments were cut from the R rated version, and the color timing may be different between the two versions to diminish the color of the blood in the R version. But since I have not seen either version yet, I don't know if this is true or not. But here is the discussion from someone who claims to have seen both versions and it does contain spoilers.

I can't wait to see the film sometime, but I'll do my best to keep my expectations in check, since hype can ruin films sometimes.

Speaking of.....DVDTalk review. I guess I'm in the minority since I liked it, but it was far from great for me. I will pick this up though when it's at a nice low pricepoint.

ok, Gareth Evans tweeted that there were two small cuts. It sounds sort of pointless for having both versions in a release. The reviews so far have not been kind to the picture quality either. I'm going to wait for the dust to settle a bit and see the differences in releases around the world.

but the Canadian disc has way less features than the US. At least my Futureshop copy seems lacking. Super disappointing.

Also odd.. the Australian DVD has the commentary, but the Blu-ray does not.

I know this isn't the right thread for this but I have a question for you. (In case the message doesn't go through).

After Googling to see the NA compatibility of the Let the Right One in Blu-ray from Amazon.co.uk, I noticed you imported a copy. I want to own the right subtitles but am slightly confused because Amazon's page lists it as Region B while everyone else is saying it's region free. I'm also Canadian, will it play on my PS3? I can't seem to get a definitive answer so I joined this forum to ask. The price is too good to pass up.

I bought it from Futureshop and checked the special features.. exactly the same as Sony's Special Features (USA)

Yeah, it's region free (or all-region, I guess). Great disc.

I'll have to double-check my copy when I get home in a couple weeks, but I could have sworn my disc didn't have a commentary track, the "circa 1994" ad, or the original music.

Has anybody gotten the opportunity to check out different releases from different countries to compare yet? PQ, AQ, and whether or not it's uncut.

Serious spoilers, but if you've watched it already, read this. Hilarious when subtitles go bad.

Re: The Raid (August 14th, 2012)

Anyway, what are the audio options like?

Can you do, for example, Indonesian language, English subtitles, and US score?

Or is it the "uncut" version has the Indonesian score, the "normal" has the US score, and you can change the language/subtitles from there?
