I remember watching The Game on DVD when it was first released and enjoying it very much. Contrived and implausable, absolutely, but done in such a way as to create an interesting ride that wouldn't have been possible if trying to maintain a realistic approach. I picked of the UK blu-ray when released and watched it again and still enjoyed it knowing the ending. Since then I have watched it two more times with guests, enjoying their take as it all unfolds. I really enjoyed Sean Penn's performance as well.
As for Panic Room, it really is a "to each his own". I saw it once when it came out and while it was enjoyable, I've had no interest in seeing it again.

18th.
I must say...I've only seen this once like...10 years ago. Never saw it again cuz I don't watch TV and never could break down to buy the meh DVD of it. I'm pretty excited for this. Fincher is one of my favs for sure.

Review is solid and seems top-notch. This one is crazy expensive though (maybe not by Criterion standards - I'm kind of new to their discs, so don't have great point of reference).

I probably need to give The Game another chance. I saw it about 12 years ago and my vague recollection is that I mostly liked it up until the ending, which I thought was incredibly annoying and ruined the movie for me. Since then I've always wondered why people seem to think it's great. Maybe I'd have a different reaction now.

anyone know or think they know if this might be the same $19.99 pricepoint at BB as The Royal Tenenbaums was? Or does anybody know why BB still shows a 9.25 release date and if this will cause it not to be in stores next week (9.18)?

The Lethal Weapon box set was moved up a week and BB didn't get it until almost a month later. Their website kept its status as "pre-order" with the wrong release date for about a week after it was released. Hope this doesn't happen with The Game...

How the fuck did I miss this thread!!!!!
The Game is one of my all time favs. I've seen it about 5-6 times and can't get enough.

Have been very curious for awhile now on Criterion Collection flicks since I have never owned one. What better way to get an awesome introduction than this flick. One of my all time favorite movies.

I'm looking forward to revisiting this film, because when I saw it initially in the theater, it didn't wow me in the slightest. I only can take Sean Penn in small doses - he's not an actor I don't particularly care for

I got mine from Amazon the other day. This transfer is superb, especially compared to the lifeless, drab version we got on the HD DVD. For the first time, I can see actual detail and clarity in the picture and the colors are much improved. Fantastic job by Criterion.
