I wish their website would come back up so I can discuss the most important thing about any bluray - the slipcover.

I also cannot get AVManiacs to load. Did the internet explode or something?

I don't see any rioting or looting going on outside. So I don't think so.

Likely the case. His thread was closed shortly after.

For someone who wasn't connected to Sony, he posted plenty of detailed information regarding the technical side of their restorations on certain titles, among other things. And did so over the course of several years. I'd like to know how he was verified as an Insider in the first place.

He wasn't verified as an Insder. They all knew who he wasn't and allowed him to stay for years posing as it drew a ton of traffic. It's why AVS never allowed him to be called an Insider (back in the format war days) and he promptly left and bashed the site years ago. The info he provided to them was false. Nothing added up.

Sad how much of a Ghost Town that place became.

On Facebook, Blu-ray.com just confirmed that they are having technical difficulties and hoping to have the site back up soon.

Thank the Lord! School is out and the 12 year olds need some place to chill.

What caused Crisp to post this, and why did it take 6 years?

Hopefully very soon because I'm suffering from withdrawal.

Apparently people assumed that was him. Maybe he got tired of some tool pretending to be him?

Glad it's not just me that it's down for, it has been one less website to kill the day with.

It was essentially a pointed aside in a post responding to an editorial Penton had made which seemed, to Mr. Crisp, to imply that some comments Mr. Crisp had made publicly involved a somewhat less-than-generous opinion about a professional segment of the post-production industry. Mr. Crisp wanted to set the record straight that he intended his comments to be taken in no such way and, while admonishing Penton, took the opportunity to mention that there was no employer and no love lost between them.

Exactly. I'll bet there are some kiddos out there needing a detox session now that they've gone all day without discussing slipcovers. Everyone knows that the slipcover is way more important than the actual film.

Re: Blu-ray.com

For purely BD info, I prefer that forum. I can ignore the ridiculous stuff about transfers, too much DNR and slipcovers because they do tend to get postings about new releases before we do here and sales with Amazon and things like that.

But, unlike DVDtalk, I never go into a forum not related to BDs there. I use the TV forum quite a bit here, the sports forum a lot, and the movies and music fairly often, but mostly just to read for information rather than getting into discussions.

What's ridiculous about crappy transfers and/or excessive DNR?

HD Talk here is very quiet compared to a few years ago. Most people go to blu-ray.com for any BD related news/discussion. They do have the best deal tracker for Amazon sales.

I need my daily fix of amazon price drops via their convenient listing (as if I need to buy more BDs).

Re: Blu-ray.com

^ I use their deal tracker. It is great.

But I don't post over there because:
a) I'm loyal to this site.
b) The douche factor is a problem over there.
c) I'm a creature of habit - dvdtalk is like the local diner where you know everyone. Blu-ray.com is the McDonald's on the Interstate.

Re: Blu-ray.com

Darn, I'm going through "selling my slipcovers" withdrawal here.

manicsounds 06-08-12 06:47 PM

Re: Blu-ray.com

Too many people were asking "Does it come with a slipcover?" and "Is it region free?", so the servers overloaded...
