Anyone own The Cider House Rules Blu-ray?

I recently bought this title for $5 from Target. Attempted to play it on my Toshiba BDX-2150 when I realized there's no dialogue. Any and all background sound work fine. I've got the player connected directly to the TV with a 6' high-speed HDMI cable, I didn't change any settings as every other Blu-ray I've ever watched played just fine.

To double check that my copy of this movie wasn't defected I decided to try it in my brother's PS3 which is currently hooked up by component cables(no HDMI), which plays the sound just fine.

any advice?

The disc (and dialog) works fine for me.

Tried this, says there's no update available.

Could it be my TV doesn't accept DTS-HD Master Audio signals? When I switch to the Dolby Digital audio track it works fine (but with commentary).

No TV that I've ever heard of will accept a DTS HD-MA signal. I don't think most TVs will accept any kind of DTS signal. Normally, the player will downmix this to a 2-channel LPCM output when connected directly to a TV. The HDMI handshake should take care of this. Is your TV generally on when you power up the player? Is there a setting in the player where you can tell it to put out a stereo signal only?

Yes the TV is on when I power up the player.
THere's a setting on the player to change the digital audio output, which has always been set as factory default (PCM Stereo) since I don't have a sound system and didn't feel the need to change it.

Like I said, other blu-rays play fine but this one title (which makes me believe it's not the cable/player/TV) and it plays fine on a different TV/player in the house that's hooked up via component cables (which makes me believe it's not the disc).

Ah, that probably explains it then. It sounds like either the mixdown is encoded improperly (thus probably losing the center channel), or is being decoded incorrectly by your player.

Given that other discs all seem to work fine in your setup, it's most likely that the mixdown is encoded improperly on the disc. Since this would be an authoring error, your situation is unlikely to be resolved by getting another copy of the movie.

Since there are no other audio tracks on this disc, probably your only options to hear the dialog properly are to get something that can accept either a DTS-HD MA signal or a multi-channel PCM signal.

^ Thanks. I've been in the market for a backup Blu-ray player anyway.
