Re: The Return of Hammer Films Studio?

Not going to lie; over the years, I've seen all the Hammer Dracula movies and, perhaps aside from the loopy Hammer/Shaw Bros. mashup Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires, not a single one has done much for me.

On the other hand, I've seen all the Hammer Frankenstein films and loved each of them; The Curse of Frankenstein is my favorite entry in the series, so I cannot wait for this disc to get released.

I'd agree with this. Not sure what it is but the Dracula ones put me to sleep.

My absolute favorite Hammer flicks are some of the more obscure ones like Paranoiac and The Pirates of Blood River. Universal and Sony both put out some great Hammer sets on DVD that would be great to see in HD.

There's a nice-looking region-free disc of Paranoiac available from Eureka.

That's what I'm beginning to think too. We've got a little over two months until October and we still haven't heard any major announcements. The only Hammer titles we've gotten on BD in North America so far were Vampire Circus and Twins of Evil, right?

I would love nothing more than for Synapse to gain distribution rights for more titles over here

For U.S. releases, there's also The Man Who Could Cheat Death, on a double-bill with Amicus' The Skull.

The only other possibility I can think of is the mystery American distributor (heavily rumored to be Lionsgate at the moment) is waiting for the main Hollywood studios like Warner to release their classic Hammer BDs, to piggyback on the marketing effort.

That could push American releases back another year or more.

I thought Lionsgate sat on basically their entire catalog? If they're the distributors, good luck!

Has Warner dropped any hints about releasing their Hammer titles? I was under the impression they weren't interested.

WB hasn't announced anything, but I would expect them in another year or two. Warner simply releases too many catalog BDs to completely pass on their Hammer movies.

I thought the majority of Hammer titles was up for grabs for the BD versions. I assumed that included the ones WB previously held. I thought someone one blu-ray.com mentioned a few months ago that Starz/Anchor Bay had won the bidding war.

I was also under the impression that WB no longer had the rights to their Hammer titles.

I'm pretty sure that WB still owns the rights to their films as they still own the Associated Artist's Productions catalog. I'm assuming that Starz/Anchor Bay will only be able to release the films that Anchor Bay previously released on dvd which I think were all distributed theatrically by Twentieth Century Fox.

Warner actually owns the rights to their Hammer movies, they will be released by WB in America or no one else. It's the other, less well-known Hammer titles they do not hold the rights to distribute in America.

Re: The Return of Hammer Films Studio

Someone school me on Hammer.

I want to know what's on Blu, what's good, what's coming. Region doesn't matter any longer.

I currently have only Vampire Circus, looking to get Twins of Evil shortly. Any/all suggestions welcomed.

NoirFan's list above is still an accurate list of what is available including the new UK releases although it also includes "new" Hammer films as well. I generally try to acquire all of the "classic" Hammer films, but from the reviews I've read, the Australian BD of The Vampire Lovers is not that great and I've not sought it out. Rasputin, Dracula Prince of Darkness and Plague of the Zombies are excellent films IMO.

It would have helped if I read this thread first.

Thanks. I'll check his list out and do some picking.
