Blu-ray Poll: Something You Like versus Something You've Never Seen

If your Blu-ray library is anything like mine, you've got piles of still-in-their-shrink-wrap titles, but only a limited amount of time.

So the question is this: you're in the mood to watch a Blu-ray, but you've only got a couple hours. Do you pick out something you've seen before and know you'll enjoy, or something you haven't seen (alas, from that stack of blind-buys and Amazon Deals-of-the-day) but might wind up hating (and losing two-hours over)?

I've found that I tend to watch stuff I enjoy over again as opposed to going for something new in these situations.

50/50 for me. I'd have to vote for both.

Something New.

I've gotten pretty good at picking out things that, if I don't like it, I'm at least better off for having experienced it.

With very little exception, I don't buy discs of movies I haven't seen, so it's an old friend, every time.

I usually go for something new for myself. However, if I'm watching with other people, I might pick something I've already seen if they haven't and I think they'll like it.

Depends on my mood obviously, but I usually go with something new I think.

I tend to go for something new unless I am just REALLY in the mood for a particular movie.

Depends on my mood.

If I just need to zone out for a while, i'll throw on a favorite of mine.

For the most part, I cut out blind buying years ago. The only time a "new" movie will be on my desk is if it's in a Netflix envelope, or a friend let me borrow it.

Probably the same. I lean heavily on choosing unwatched titles on my shelf, but often they're films I've seen before (in theaters, rentals, etc) and then purchased because I enjoyed them.

This too.

I'm trying to get through my "unwatched" pile as best I can.

I'll almost always go for something new. There are a lot of movies I've been meaning to re-watch, but there's just so much that I own that I haven't seen...

On the other hand, if I'm really stressed or otherwise in need of the film equivalent of "comfort food," I'll watch something I know and love.

Re: Blu-ray Poll: Something You Like versus Something You've Never Seen

Typically, something new.

I think what this question boils down to is the size of your collection. People who have smaller collections usually only buy movies they love, so that's what they are watching. People with larger collections probably blind buy a lot of stuff and feel they need to watch that instead of something they've seen a few times.

Re: Blu-ray Poll: Something You Like versus Something You've Never Seen

I've been really good at blind buying titles I end up liking, with the exception of 5 or so titles, I'll choose something new every time. Of course it'll depend on my moods, if I feel like watching something I've seen 100 times then I'll watch it, there's a reason why I bought it.

Re: Blu-ray Poll: Something You Like versus Something You've Never Seen

My collection is mostly stuff I've seen and would like to see again. But as far as what I make time to watch, it's easily 90% stuff I've never seen - mostly new releases, but also some classics that I haven't seen before. If I don't like it, I get rid of it, if I like it and/or think it's worth seeing again, it goes in the collection.
