Independent distributors AnimEigo have announced that they are planning to release on Blu-ray Shogun Assassin 5-film Box Set (the Lone Wolf & Cub Series). Exact technical specs, region coding status and supplemental features are unknown at the moment, but the preliminary release date set by the distributors is April 24th.

I hope this is actually a LW&C set, and not just a BD set of all the mashed-up, re-cut US versions, however it looks like that's not the case. I love Shogun Assassin, and I've already got that BD, but I'd much rather see the classic series hit hi-def.

Hoping and praying is the original LW&C series and not the edited versions. I already have the first Shogun Assassin in Blu-ray and not really interested in owning the other ones.

Never picked up the first Shogun Assassin cuz I was hoping the rest would get released. If the price is right, I will pick up this set.

I read over in Bluray.com that this is not the original LW&C but rather the dubbed versions of all 6 films. The first disc would be LW&C Part 1 & 2, 2nd would be the 3rd part, 3rd would be the 4th and so on.

it's more than likely NOT the Lone Wolf and Cub series, since that was 6 movies. Shogun Assassin's edited versions were 5 movies.... and this set is 5 discs, so yea....

I know 'Shogun Assassin' has a reputation because it apparently got play in the early 80s drive-in/grindhouse/home video markets, it was created by talent that appeals to different cult fanbases, and it was heavily sampled for 'Liquid Swords' but when were these "sequels" produced? Post 'Kill Bill'? Did anyone from the "original" return for the sequels?

I would think a LW&C set (with the original SA as bonus feature) would be the ideal product but I guess Animeigo knows its market.

I believe the sequels are nothing more than the original dubbed versions that were released here. Shogun Assassin is the only one I care about because of the soundtrack and pop culture appreciation, but the first LW&C film is vastly superior.

Alert me when a Lone Wolf & Cub set is released, then I'll actually care.

I was under the impression that SA was assembled 5-6 years after the original series concluded since the series had not gotten US distribution but maybe Toho themselves dubbed all the movies for English speaking markets as they made them. SA is closer to 'What's Up, Tiger Lily?' than the typical dub job.

Just got this from Amazon, I was lucky to lock in the price when it was $40. Anyway, it is a 2 disc set! Disc 1 is the previous Shogun release, and disc 2 is Shogun 2-5. Running times are 85, 89, 81, 89 and 83 mins. Disc are in a digipack.

Wow...fuck that. A two-disc set with an MSRP of $90? I already own Shogun Assassin, so I'll just remove this from my wishlist now. Thanks for the heads up, stingermck.

I just started watching Lone Wolf and Cub and I won't buy the set until it comes with the first two films and not just Shogun Assassin.

Now that's what I'm talking about! I was holding out hope since AnimEigo released it here on DVD. I never managed to buy all of those episodes. I'd love to get them on Blu-ray. I wonder about some AnimEigo's other titles, like the Lady Snowblood movies.

Oh well, at least I got Shogun for $10 after Amazon trade ins.

I'll stick w/ Shogun Assassin 1 and I'm good. NOW w/ LW&C? I'll get them all!
