First Blu-ray/HD-DVD title purchased?

The thread in the DVDTalk section about the first DVD purchased inspired me to make a thread for us High Definition folk.

What was the first title you purchased on either format?

For me, the first HD-DVD I purchased was: The Shining. It remains one of my favorites.

The first Blu-ray I purchased was: The Spider-Man Trilogy. I purchased this before I even had a Blu-ray player when J+R had it for $30-something. Great deal for a great set of awesome films that look and sound amazing!

Casino Royale was my first Blu-ray disc. My first HD DVD was Phantom of the Opera on launch day. I pre-ordered my HD-A1, and there were only three titles available on day one: Serenity, The Last Samurai, and Phantom of the Opera. None of the stores in my neck of the woods had Serenity -- the only of the three I actually wanted! -- so I picked up Phantom... just to have something to kick off my HD DVD viewing. I skimmed a few minutes, and that was it. Out of the 437 HD DVD and Blu-ray sets I have, it's still the only one that hasn't been watched from start to finish.

Well the first HD-DVD I purchased was BSG Season One, blind buy because I felt it was a good price. To this day it is one of my favorite set of discs I own and I will not give it up until it's Blu-ray counterpart comes out.

My first Blu-ray purchase was Weeds season One because it was only $20 at Target back in Feburary and I just had to have something....other than Spiderman 3 that came packed-in...

Picked up Tropic Thunder, The Road Warrior, Bullitt, and Batman Begins at Sam's Club before I even had a player because I knew I would be getting one and most importantly..they were cheaper there!

I bought the following three HD DVDs off Amazon (so I could qualify for the 10% off all HD purchases) prior to receiving the HD-A1 I purchased through the Continental Airlines "One-Pass" promotion:

"Serenity"
"Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow"
and "Sleepy Hollow"

First Blu-ray purchase was a previously viewed copy of "Across the Universe", which I picked up a few weeks prior to getting my LG combo drive . . .

I bought my first HD DVD before I had a player because of a misprice. I got The Matrix Collection from circuitcity.com for $19.99. I can't remember my first BD.

I bought Goodfellas for $15 at Fry's simply to see how it looked on my friend's PS3 on my HDTV.

My first BD owned was The Prestige that I got for free for taking that "test" someone posted. I didn't have a BD player, so I unloaded it. Then when I finally got my PS3 earlier this year the first two I actually bought were Blade Runner and Pan's Labyrinth in that Best Buy deal that was 2 for $xx.xx, I forget how much though.

Last year at this time I purchased a new HP desktop that played both HD & Blu-ray. So as I was walking through Fry's on the way to check out I picked up Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (HD) and X-Men: The Last Stand (Blu-ray) - both because they were on sale. I didn't buy anything else until I finally picked up a stand alone Blu-ray player a couple of months ago. The PC was not for the movie room - it just happened to be an older model that was cheaper than the one I originally planned on getting - and even though it was hooked up to a 32 inch Samsung LCD I didn't want to invest heavily in either format until a definite choice was made.

First HD: I chose Heroes and 300 as the free ones with the 360 HD (aside from the 10 free ones via mail). As for the first (and only) HD DVD I paid for, that would be Blade Runner.

BD: Pretty sure it was Cars.

I first got in Blu in July' 07. I picked up Casino Royale, Mission Impossible box and Last Samurai early on.

Picked up an HD-DVD in November '07 when the prices tumbled. Got the requisite Transformers and Serenity

My first BD was the Iron Man exclusive Mask edition from Target. I was still working there and it was already sold out but I found one in our go backs and even if I didn't have a player or HDTV yet, I bought it.

Serenity [HD DVD] for me.

First DVD purchased was The Mask of Zorro from a defunct outfit called Bigstar.com. Six months before I got a DVD player (I was having a new house built at the time, so the newfangled DVD player had to wait).

Although I have 21 BD titles, I have yet to find the player I want at an affordable price. So, I haven't really decided which disc to watch first when I get it. The first ones purchased have been sold. First BD I purchased and kept was Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Got it during the BOGOF glory days last year at Amazon.
