Bump, Start Anew, Search More?
When searching the Forums for "First Blu," this is the first thread that came up. Anyway, finally bought a blu-ray player, and first disk purchase was Watchmen: Director's Cut.
Even for my older 37" inch Sharp HDTV, the difference is quite noticeable. I can imagine that on a 50" screen it's even more dramatic, but don't believe them when they say you need 42 inches or more.
It ain't the size of the TV, it's how you appreciate the pixels.

My first Blu-ray was The Shining back in November of 2008. After that one I'm pretty sure the next two I bought were Foo Fighters: Live At Wembley and Tropic Thunder.

I wanted to have the first HD-DVDs and Blu-Rays that were out, so when Tower had them all half off when they went out of business, I got 50 First Dates on Blu and Million Dollar Baby on HD-DVD, since those were among the first titles on those formats. Also got Rumor Has It because it was the first combo HD-DVD, which I thought would've helped steer more people to that format but obviously it didn't. I got an HD-DVD player when they were being cleared out, then got a Blu-Ray player for Christmas that year (2008) but didn't get an HDTV til a year later.

the first i bought was RESERVOIR DOGS for $9.99 - this was right around the time blu-rays had finally reached the less than $10 mark and i had never upgraded my non-anamorphic dvd release of the film so it was a no-brainer. however this was not the first blu-ray i watched on my system, i had about 15 blu-rays before i bought my player.

I lied to my dad and said I had upgraded to Blu so he wouldn't send me any dollar store DVDs as gifts.
Within a week he sent me Watchmen and The Dark Knight.
Took me a year to finally upgrade my player and TV.

My first Blu was one of the Disney combo packs (Sleeping Beauty I believe) with no plan of getting a BD player at the time, just wanted to 'future-proof' my collection.
My first HDs were the ones I got with the player I bought on Craigslist (Tremors, Transformers, Cinderella Man)

Blu-ray: Dark Knight, Speed Racer and Sleeping Beauty (because Disney was threatening to put it into the vault) - a month before I bought a player in February 2010

Hmmm, as usual, I know that I had several discs before I bought the player, but I'm just going to have to guess on these.
First blu, unfortunately, was probably The Guardian, bought it and another because of a BB pricing mistake.
First HD-DVD was possibly one of the Bourne films.

Bought two the day I bought my first Blu-ray player a couple of years ago, "Young Frankenstein" and the original "Planet of the Apes".

The next question, is what will I buy next, and how do I hide these purchases from the wife?

Re: First Blu-ray/HD-DVD title purchased?
Back in October of 2008, I entered a contest at work for the employees. The winner would get a free 80 GB PS3. Surprisingly, I actually won the contest (this wasn't just for my store, it was company wide). I found out I had won via phone call an hour before I finished my shift. As soon as I clocked out, I went down to Best Buy, and picked up a copy of John Carpenter's Halloween for $10.
