I take it this doesn't include the TV show or animated series? That would make me bite when it gets cheap enough. Otherwise, I'm good with the old set.

Nice, but I think I'll still have more luck finding the single Blu's used (I only need four of them).

No thanks. I got the book version (and Rise)for Xmas, and it thankfully wasn't tainted by Burton's turd.

I'm also hesitant to buy knowing we're getting at least one sequel to the new movie.
Maybe this will help push some more copies of the single releases onto the used market. I got some nice Groupon coupons for the local used DVD stores.

Not quite. It didn't have the restored/remastered versions of all the animated episodes (they could only restore like 3 of them in time for the release) nor did the animated episodes have the "next episode" teasers. The individual release that came a few months later was fully-restored and included those teasers.
I'm assuming this one doesn't have either TV series because this only rounds up existing Blu-ray discs in new packaging and both TV shows are DVD-only so far.
The 5-disc Blu-ray set plus the Burton film plus the new film plus the individual releases of both TV series is the way to go. If you really wanna be obsessively-complete you'll track down the 2-disc DVD edition of the Burton film for the extras (which were in the Ape head release) and the individual Image release of "Behind the Planet of the Apes" for the full Roddy McDowall interview and the alternate "Beneath" trailer (neither of which were in the Ape head box).

Glad I'm reading this, I didn't realize the Blu of the Burton film didn't port over all the extras. I've been meaning to move all my Apes movies over to Blu and (despite it's problems), I'd still like to have all the extras for this film.

A lot of the early Fox DVD's didn't port over the DVD extras. ID4, Speed, Cast Away, the first Predator release, just a few that come to mind.

Hi there, this looks like a great forum.
I'm a fan of the Planet of the Apes film franchise and own the DVD box set which contains the 'original movies', I also own the Mark Wahlberg film. I'm keen on the new Rise movie, really enjoyed it at the cinema, should I just buy the new DVD or this Evolution set? I'm curious to know if this set has any extra features that the previous releases didn't have or if the quality is better. Thanks guys.

And as noted, there is at least one sequel being made to Rise of..., so this box is pretty much already obsolete.

Gawd... I just watched 'Rise' yesterday... what a great prequel. Can't wait for the sequel... of the prequel.
As for this box... it's like buying a Harry Potter 1-6 box.

Couple of weeks ago i bought the 40th Anniversary book set. Was a fantatic looker, but the majority of the discs were scratched. Got a replacement... same thing. So, forget it. I sent it back for a refund.
Saw this on the FoxConnect website and bit. Im glad I did. All seven films in a small box and better yet, the discs are on plastic hubs now and not rubbing on cardboard.
