I THINK the four upcoming MGM/UA reissues (Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, Rollerball, Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia, The Train (which was the fourth one I had forgot about)) are going to be straight up reprints and were mandated by the studio.

If TT says no more reissues after this year then how does that work these these mandates from MGM on every title of theirs that sells out?

Beats me. I'm just passing along the information. I assume the situation is fluid. I believe Wild At Heart is the only other MGM title that has sold out and it's not getting reissued. TT has also mentioned the possibility of lowering the number of copies from 3000 down to 1500 due to the the decline of sales, so things are always changing.

Olive is releasing the John Wayne film Legend of the Lost on DVD only. Leads me to believe the BD rights are spoken for and with TT.

It does make me wonder though. Why would MGM really give a shit enough to mandate that TT reissue Rollerball (or one of the other three titles)? If they were so concerned about people missing out then they would release it themselves to a wide distribution (and lower cost).

Like what? Most of the really popular ones have been re-released domestically or at the very least in region B. The Sinbad titles are the only ones I see going for outrageous prices. And maybe NotLD, but I thought everyone hated that disc anyway.

Well, off the top of my head, Zulu, The Train, The Man from Laramie, Hard Times, Alfredo Garcia, The Blob, The Killer Elite, Christine, The Mysterious Island, & The Flim-Flam Man. "Outrageous," I grant you, is relative, compared to some of the other things I quest for in vain for decent prices on eBay-a GameCube component cable, a top-loading NES 2, The Lord of the Rings: The Complete Recordings -this are pretty reasonable :(.

What's so sought-after about the NOTLD disc?

Well, then you're in luck. The Killer Elite, The Man From Laramie and Zulu are very much still in print and available. Mysterious Island was reissued in December. The Train and Alfredo Garcia are both being reissued later this year. Christine has been released by Sony and you can buy it at Best Buy for under $10. The Flim-Flam Man has yet to be released on blu-ray. You are out of luck on both Hard Times and The Blob, but the former was available for a couple of years and the latter was only available for about 6 weeks, but was announced like a year and a half in advance, so I guess that's on you.

First off, we're talking about the 1990 version. As far as I know, it's the only BD release of that film. It was also the first TT release that caused mass panic on the internet, first by selling out before the disc was even released, and then because the transfer notoriously featured revised color timing. Despite the fact that TT offered refunds for anyone wishing to return the disc, they apparently only received something like 2 returns. The disc is very expensive now.

The DVD is still stupidly expensive.

Yes, yes, yes, but what about a GameCube component cable, a top-loading NES 2, LORT Complete Recordings rotfl?

I know. I'm still waiting on an OAR BD of the original.

Posted this in the Blu-ray bargains forum, but for those who don't go there, the latest sale officially starts today (Friday, April 8, at 4pm ET) with the usual $10 discount.

According to Twilight Time's own site ( http://www.twilighttimemovies.com/going-fast-1/ ), the following titles are in short supply: Blue Lagoon, Dogs of War, First Men in The Moon, Vampires, Thunderbirds and Zardoz (these have all been in previous sales, so they may not be included in this one).

When the sale starts (which is still a couple hours away as I type this, at 4 pm eastern time), $29.95 titles will drop to $19.95, and $34.95 titles (only Harlock, I think?) to $24.95.

For those who may ask, you can buy the discs here:
http://www1.screenarchives.com/displ...TWILIGHT-TIME/

and possibly also on the official Twilight Time site. Previous sales were not accessible there, but it appears they're now set up for commerce, so it may be worth checking there as well.

EDIT: It's on TT's own site

Apparently the sale is only at www.twilighttimemovies.com this time around. Prices have dropped there.

Dagnabbit...I was going to use the sale as a good excuse to pick up enough titles to qualify for the signed 10 to Midnight available through screenarchivesentertainment. Oh well, I just saved myself at least $130.00.

Thanks for posting this...I was out of town (and off the grid, or close to it) when the sale was announced, but I picked up The Last Detail a few days ago. Only my second TT order but the last one went smoothly.

Have prices ever dropped more than 75% at Twilight Time? There are other releases to be had from other countries. No Limited Edition gimmicks there. I tell ya hwat for.

Just got an email from Twilight time saying they replenished the stock on the following titles:

Titus
The Front
Hawaii
Fate Is The Hunter
Bonjour Tristesse
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie

I have seen a lot of people mention Hawaii. Is it that good? Never seen it or heard of it.

I love Titus, but I've seen people around here say the transfer is poor. I'm still a bit tempted.

Caps-a-Holic.com states the transfer is only servicable. It's not mind-bogglingly excellent as some other random 20th Century FOX titles are though.

Here's a proper comparison link:

Comparison 5

Looks to marginally be an upscale. What a fucking joke and I do agree with the comments.

Re: The Official Twilight Time Blu-ray Thread

New TWILIGHT TIME titles announced for September and October. Apparently October's a good month for trains. :)

September 13:
MURPHY’S LAW (1986)
REMO WILLIAMS: THE ADVENTURE BEGINS (1985)
EYE OF THE NEEDLE (1981)
FROM NOON TILL THREE (1976)
9 TO 5 (1980)
BOBBY DEERFIELD (1977)

October 11:
BOXCAR BERTHA (1972) BLU-RAY - Oct 11th
RUNAWAY TRAIN (1985) BLU-RAY - Oct 11th
THE TRAIN (1964) Encore Edition
THE BULLET TRAIN (1975) BLU-RAY - Oct 11th,
HUSH…HUSH SWEET CHARLOTTE (1964) BLU-RAY - Oct 11th
THE CHASE (1966)

Glad I cleared out everything I needed from the existing catalog in various sales over the years, because I suspect I'll need to set aside some cash for several of these when they get discounted.

I own the DVD but have never seen it. Despite the interesting cast, it just looks like a bloated '60s historical drama to me.

Probably worth watching it before assuming that. ;) Savant's review of it is a decent primer, too.
