Lets find something you like to collect and destroy it right in front of you!
Have you ever collected baseball cards, comic books, music CD's, rare LP's? Know anybody in your family that does or did. Are they dumbass's (as you put it, your words not mine) for collecting something of value, history, or culture. For Christ sake man, people collect all sorts of things. Some fathers share there coin collection with their children, are they dumass's for paying top dollar for a rare single coin? It's just a piece of old metal, right?
Point is, a lot of you are quick to jump on people for collecting a piece of cardboard with some ink. Sure, it's crazy to pay $125 for a slipcover, but if the demand is there, why not. It's simple economics, supply & demand!

BTW, if you do make the video of destroying a authentic Bram Stoker Dracula slipcover Larry, please let everyone see what you look like before you proceed, because stupid is, what stupid does....
I think the big difference is that LP's, muscle cars, coins, stamps, etc. all had their time when they were a commodity, now with that time gone, some survivors are treasured and therefore valuable.

With a current product it seems insane to want to pay so much to collect something that was avialable a few weeks ago. I will admit, had I known the Miss Congeniality slip cover was worth $100 I would not have thrown it out. But was there a realistic way for me to anticipate that? With the mass quantities produced, I just don't see any of the current media becoming a collectable like the LP's or comic books of days gone by. Manufactured shortages like beanie babies tend to bubble then burst.

Imo, and I tried explaining this on the other site, is that had it been common knowledge, it wouldn't have been valuable. Most folks have no idea anyone would even begin to collect slipcovers and thus the majority of them (slipcovers) aren't even in the running as far as being obtained by collectors. They're happily sitting on the blu-rays they were purchased with on someone's shelf, and the collectors are trading back and forth within a small group of themselves (ie; a bubble). The moments it does become common knowledge, the bubble will burst as the market becomes flooded with slipcovers.

I normally throw them away because I find it such a pain to have to slide it off and on everytime I want to open a case.

The other option is to mail them in a in a box or larger envelope ( more then 3) from the post office. Those boxes are free from what I understand, you just pay the shipping costs.

Some people leave then on a bluray case and sell the empty case in a box. This obviously won't work in a bubble mailer as it will wreck havoc on the edges of the slip and look like crap when it arrives to the buyers destination.

(Quote)Collapse them into a padded envelope?(Quote)
This would be fine if the post office took care in handling bendable items, but no, chances are it will get bent/torn/scuffed from the rough handling.
Hmm - sounds kind of like a hassle to ship then. I might do it to unload my BS Dracula, but I'm not going to do it for a bunch of them that are likely worth less than $5.

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers

I have a couple rare ones: Akira... Beetlejuice... Crank... Lost Season 3... Trick r' Treat... Moon... Dracula...

I actually keep films with Slipcovers separated from other BDs

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers

I generally don't give much thought to slipcovers, unless:

a) all the movies/TV seasons from the same set has one and I'm stuck with one that hasn't or;
b) it features different artwork and the regular artwork is crap (e.g. Grindhouse).

Are you selling? I've been looking around for Lost S3 for a while. Every season on my shelf has a slip but that one.

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers

Looks I need to update my amazon listing for lost season three to make sure they know I have the rare cover on it. I've had it at about $24 for a coule years now just sitting there.

So how much should I list it for, $300, $350 more?

It's more of a box/

Its the only thing that comforts me about spending $97 on it upon release in 2007... so I cannot.

I have seen them occasionally at used DVD/CD stores though.

Of course you always have the option of throwing out the slips on the other seasons so they would all match and it wouldn't cost a penny

$97 wow.
Back in mah day I remember 2 catalog titles being 29.99 at Best Buy after launch day being considered a good deal and a $600 PS3 being the cheapest best Blu-ray player. *rocker squeaking*

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers

What I was trying to say is that I usually only really care about the Disney slipcovers. But some of the time, they're made from this flimsy, "rainbow flash" material that can really flake off if you're not careful. Those are the ones I hate. Most times, thankfully, the covers are just plain card material....which is just fine.

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers

So, I recently discovered that my Beauty & the Beast Platinum Edition DVD had gone bad (disc not recognized by any player), so I traded in the disc plus case for a coupon at Best Buy, and kept the bonus disc to supplement my Blu-ray. That left me with just the slipcover. So I figured, what the hey, throw it up on eBay, maybe someone will want it for a dollar. It's already been bid up to $3!

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers

I started selling my slipcovers a few monthes ago. I started with the original Target exclusive DreamWorks titles. Exclusive, because they were the only store selling combo sets. Madagascar 1 and 2 sold for only $8 each. But Kung Fu Panda sold for $45 even though a new slipcover was released.

It has to be a younger person thing. I can't imagine anyone middle aged with a spouse getting away with spending $45 on a piece of cardboard

I sold all my Lost Seasons but kept the slips. Thanfully that includes the 'hard' Season 3. Probably should ebay them.
