Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
Aren't slip-covers used by the studios to prevent theft? I usually toss mine. They don't really add anything, unless the art is different than the case of the blu-ray/DVD. In that case I'll keep them.

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
Everyone has a choice, either keep the slipcover or throw it away. That's why this is a free country lol

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
This had me curious so I just looked on ebay for the most expensive slipcover sold recently.
Unbelievably, this is what I found... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Slipcover-Mi...item4cfc6a970d The Miss Congeniality Double Feature BD slipcover selling for almost $125. No BD included. Just the slipcover. Holy shit! I know people collect weird stuff but that is honestly retarded. |
Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
WTF??? And the seller says it even has visible damage from removing the price tag, which is why I hate this type of packaging with a passion. If it has a price tag on it and I can't remove it in the store, I don't buy it!
Slipcovers COULD prevent theft if they'd actually shrink-wrap the fucking things with the cases inside, since it'd be harder for someone to get the disc out and swipe it, but the retarded way they do it now you could take the disc out then slide the case back in the slipcover and wait for some unsuspecting customer to buy it! There's been times when I've gone to a store and after being frustrated that the discs I want to buy are in un-sealed slipcovers with price tags on them, I'll switch the slipcovers around with totally inappropriate DVDs, like I once put a gangsta-thug movie in a Disney slipcover. Thought that might convince somebody to start sealing the fucking things! |

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
most slipcovers I've gotten on my disks are cheap cardboard and remind me of a frozen dinner box. Definitely cheap and add nothing to the packaging. I throw them out.

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
They should make steelbook slipcovers.

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
Speaking of slipcover obsession, I finally found a new copy of The Dark Knight with the slipcover at Blockbuster. I was actually holding off on buying it because I wanted the slipcover and I couldn't find any stores that had it.

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
I don't understand the slipcover obsession, either, but who am I to judge? I order most of my stuff over the Internet, so I can't control whether I get a slipcover or not. The only time it sort of bothered me when I didn't receive a slipcover for a Blu-ray I knew had one was for Grindhouse because I thought it looked cool. But I didn't return the movie because I didn't get one or anything.
I also have never understood the obsession some people have with steelbooks, which I know there used to be plenty of enthusiasts of those here. The only times I tend to go in for the special packaging is if I find it really, really cool (the Book of the Dead versions of the Evil Dead movies, the Planet of the Apes bust) or if that version contains content that other versions don't (The Wicker Man limited edition, Freaks and Geeks Yearbook Edition, E.T. Ultimate Gift Set). The only time I'll scratch my head a bit is if someone buys a title that he/she doesn't like just because it has a slipcover or is in steelbook packaging. If you're a huge fan of the film, I can certainly see why you might want to pay more for packaging frills, but for something you don't even like? That doesn't make sense to me. But we all have the things we like to collect. |

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
The only movies where I really care if I get the slipcover or not are the Disney movies. Back when Disney handed them out for free, I got a ton of them. (really wish they hadn't started charging 4 bucks for a cover and 3 bucks for the cover insert.)

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
Unless they're lenticular or contain different artwork than the cover, I throw them away. I never really saw the point of a slipcover that has the same art as the cover beneath it.

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
I'm going to invent a slipcover that keeps your slipcover safe. I will call it...

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
Slipcovers are proof you pre-ordered or bought that movie on release week. I can understand those that want to collect it.
I own Dracula, think I may unload it. |

This is what they said in one of their recent emails... We are happy to let you know that o-sleeves, wraps, and cases can be purchased for a nominal charge. The cost for these items in a single shipment is $3.95 for the first item, and $1.00 for each additional item. If you would like to purchase an o-sleeve, wrap, or case, you may send $3.95 (add $1.00 for each additional item) to our Consumer Relations Department to cover shipping and handling for these items. To take advantage of this offer, a check or money order (made payable to WDSHE Consumer Relations) along with a letter of intent should be sent to: WDSHE Consumer Relations PO Box 3100 Neenah, WI 54957-3100 |

I like slipcovers. Except the horrible Disney ones. They're what I call Rainbow Flash. Which is when you look at them closely under a light and move them and can see a sort of rainbow, oil slick colouring to them, if you know what I mean. The cover sort of flakes off makes an otherwise perfect slipcover look all beat up. If a dvd or blu-ray comes with a cover, I'll get it. But if it doesn't, it doesn't really bug me that much. Though, if it's a favourite movie of mine, I'll go out of my way to get it with the slipcover or certain kind of case. For instance, I searched for the version of Masters Of The Universe in the cardboard slipcover. And I got Dragonslayer with the original theatrical poster artwork.
