Throwing slip covers away, though, is crazy talk!
They slow me down when I'm taking the disc in and out of the package and they make the whole thing take up more space on my shelf. If throwing that away is crazy talk, I don't want to speak sanely. |
Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
Slow you down? Are you in a race to play the movie that comes down to nanoseconds?
Take up space on your shelf? How hard up for shelf space are you when fractions of an inch come into play? |

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
I'm starting to think I should sell all my slipcases off on that forum. I tend to buy my movies on release day so I'm sure I have more than a few that aren't made anymore, like BS Dracula.

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
The other day I was at Amoeba and I saw a used copy of "Couple's Retreat" for $5.99 and it had a Slipcover and it looked so pretty and I had it in my hand but the movie is crap. But you try to rationalize these things and I told myself "oh but there is a scene with the girls in underwear, that was kinda nice" and my girlfriend had to hold my hands look at me and say "you have to let it go".

I throw them out but will admit to liking and keeping the one for Planes, trains and Autos

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
I like slipcovers. Except the horrible Disney ones. They're what I call Rainbow Flash. Which is when you look at them closely under a light and move them and can see a sort of rainbow, oil slick colouring to them, if you know what I mean. The cover sort of flakes off makes an otherwise perfect slipcover look all beat up. If a dvd or blu-ray comes with a cover, I'll get it. But if it doesn't, it doesn't really bug me that much. Though, if it's a favourite movie of mine, I'll go out of my way to get it with the slipcover or certain kind of case. For instance, I searched for the version of Masters Of The Universe in the cardboard slipcover. And I got Dragonslayer with the original theatrical poster artwork.

Slip Covers are so purdy

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
FWIW, I threw away my 24 S8 slipcover. For $50, I'll go through my trash and sell it to anyone who's interested. Might have a slight odor of Indian Food, however.

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
I love slipcovers! What I do is throw a bunch of them on my bed, like around a 100, and writhe around on them naked. It has it's drawbacks as they sometimes stick together afterwards... but I just can't help myself!

To those who throw them away - sell them instead! Make yourself some cash back on your Blu purchase. If there's a forum, there's probably also a market for such things; maybe on that same forum?
I've re-bought Harry Potter 6, Watchmen, A Nightmare Before Christmas 3D - to get the cool 3D lenticular covers, then resold the bare copies.

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
My favorite part about blu-ray.com is if you say something negative about slipcovers, your post is deleted.

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
They seem wasteful to me as well. The only way I ever keep them is if the art on the slip cover is different than what's on the actual case. I was keeping them in box for a while but decided I was never going to do anything with them. Should've kept them and sold them off .

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
I've equated them along with the other special packaging to beenie babies and NASCAR plates. Kind of a forced collectable. I see people buy these things and keep them wrapped like they are some sort of rare coin. PT Barnum was right.

I'm certain the majority of posters over there are only interested in filling their shelves and don't even like film. I mean their Slipcover Discussion thread is 1300 pages. |

You could hAve just taken off the slip cover and returned the disc back to the store for a refund unless you got more in the selling then you would on a return.

Re: these people are obsessed with slipcovers
I've never understood the love of these dumbass slipcovers. I want to try to find some really sought after ones and make a youtube video of me just tearing each one by one.
I normally throw them away because I find it such a pain to have to slide it off and on everytime I want to open a case. |
