surprised they're not releasing the newly restored "silent version" that aired recently on TCM as a bonus, which is basically the same movie just without the talking and title cards where the dialogue would be.

I hope this is the beginning of Universal turning around their catalog output and doing it right.

Has anyone seen it yet?
I got it this week, and it looks amazing! Fabulous job cleaning the film up--it almost looks like it could have been made in 1960 rather than 1930.
A gazillion times better than any previous home video release of the film.
The silent version is quite a surprise! It's not necessarily better than the talkie, but a fascinating alternate take. It does feature alternate frames of some of the same scenes, and even a few scenes that were cut from the talkie. The music score is not all that amazing. I guess I'm spoiled by the mostly stark talkie version. I think it plays better that way.

Yes, I love this film, and the restoration job was amazing. It looks phenomenal for such an old film.
